Is it just that people who are fat and say they've tried to lose weight haven't tried hard enough? It's really simple. Burn more calories than you put into your body. Why can't people accomplish this simlple task? And when they fail at it repetedly, why do they expect people to pity them?

Most people who are overweight don't eat because they are hungry. They have learned to use food to comfort themselves. Some use drugs, some use alchol, some use exercise, some use food, etc.

People learn at a very young age to associate food with comfort. Many children don't get any real love from their parents, so they turn to food to "fill themselves". It's very difficult to change behaviors that were learned as young children.

Also, people learn their eating habits from their families. Many overweight people have no idea how to go about losing weight. Some of the people who are most sucessful at losing huge amounts of weight are the ones who never knew how, but had someone show them one day. Once they learn what proper foods to eat, how exercise helps them burn calories all day long and not just while they are doing the exercise and such, they do quite well at losing and maintaining weight-loss.

People who have never been over-weight just can't understand it. The emotional stuff is so difficult to overcome. In most cases, it has nothing at all to do with food. Anyone can stop eating for a while. Overweight people have to learn behavioral tecniques so that they can deal with stress without going on a binge. They have to learn how to go to family gatherings where people try their best to sabbatoge their weight-loss efforts because of jealousy or fear of change.

Also, many people use extra weight as a way to hide from things like sexual advances from others. Maybe they were abused as a child and they are uncomfortable with sex. Being 100 pounds overweight is a great way to stop sexual advances so that you don't have to deal with those childhood emotions rushing back.

It really is a lot more difficult than you might think. Sure, everyone knows the calculations with calories and such. Still, it's much easier said than done. I was a weight-loss counselor for years and I have seen and heard many stories. I don't think that most over-weight people want pity. I think that most of them realize that they are in control of their own destiny. It does take a toll on one's self-esteem to fail over and over again. They really can't and usually don't blame anyone but themselves in the end.

Ok, Stephanie, you don't sound very well educated or very nice. Why not pick up a book and read? That way you wouldn't be so ignorant.

It's not as simple as you make it sound.

I DO exercise. I walk 4 miles every day, & I'm on a very strict diet. Why can't I lose weight? Well dammit, if I knew the answer to that, I wouldn't be overweight, now would I?!

I DO NOT expect people to pity me, I do however, expect common courtesy. I expect people to give me the benefit of the doubt, and not assume I'm home eating pie all day. It just so happens that I'm hypothyroid & I'm on some meds that just make it harder to lose the weight. Believe me when I tell you I'm trying.

I'll eventually lose the weight. The question is, will you get any wiser?

I'm fat. I ask no one for pity. Some people just have a different metabolism, so food turns to fat faster and easier. I've hung out with friends for days at a time and we eat basically the same things, do the same activities. Yet I'm fat and she's skinny.

I pity skinny people who are just rude. I might be fat, but I can lose weight. I don't think rude skinny people ever lose their rudeness.

i have been laid up from foot surgery and in the last 4 months i have gained about 25 lbs--obviously, i ate more calories than i burned--now my task is to wean myself from the carbs that i have been eating ( i am (literally) addicted to carbs) and also start moving around more now that i have most of my mobility back--
losing weight for some also entails behavior modification and a strong will---counceling, support from loved ones, and trust in ones self will help anyone lose the weight and achieve the goals they are striving for.

and BTW--are you one of those anorexic waifs with your bones sticking out who thinks they look hot? are you under 20 years old and have never had any children? have you ever had any adversity in your life that was so traumatic that you tried to console yourself and used food? have you grown up in a genetically obese family?
No one wants pit or your lack of compassion. until you know all the facts about someone, dont stand in judgement of them. who the F***are you to make assessments?

There are also medical conditions that cause people to be fat, and no amount of diet or exercise will let them lose weight until and unless that condition is taken care of. Many of those conditions are really extremely hard to diagnose, too. My wife had such a condition, a combination of metabolism problems, thyroid problems and undiagnosed diabetes. Eventually, they killed her. Doctors don't know everything.

Sometimes it's a medical condition, you discompassionate boob.

Thyroid disorders, diabetes and more cause overweight.

What are you, some skinny little no-talent b##ch with few brains? If you have kids (which I hope you don't) you'll gain weight too. Then everyone else will have the last laugh.

Be compassionate. Live and let live.

It's all relative, you may have no pity for them because it may be easy for you. Everyone has a different metabolism and it's no fault of their own. And I don't think they expect pity, I think they expect you to not mock them when they fail.
But one thing I can't stand is that video of the morbidly obese woman eating chicken and saying she's sexy. That's all her fault.

Are you just being mean??

Food companies have it in their products under some name that nobody know what it does, like tyrkadhfh fatty acids, to make people fat in this country... in fact the diet drinks that people drink really make people more fat... so once you get on this yo-yo diet fads, your bound to go up and up and up...

The food industry is just that, an industry... it has one goal, make money not make healthy people; they would rather, (just like gambling casinos) take your money and kick you to the side, than to see you happy healthy and wise... Food and drugs are about money not about health... hospitals are about death, not about health... more people die in hospitals than anywhere else...

also, allot of the meds we take as Americans, (we are one of the [if not the most] medicated nations in the world) put the pounds on...
