You are a veteran so long as you did any time in the service. The US Military does not make any distinction of Veteran status whether or not you actually served in a war or not.

If you fulfilled your time obligation whether war time or not you are a veteran, If you are out you should receive discharge papers telling whether your discharge was Honorable or other.

All military action does not occur in a theater of War even during supposed peacetime certain members can still engage in combat activities.

if you finished basic training then you are a veteran, I think you have to have 60 days active duty.
The reserve still qualify you as a veteran. Now if you were kick out of basic, I do not think you are.

90 days active miltary service makes you a veteran! the difference is that some organazations such as veteran of foreign wars and american legion require actual ribbons or proof of wartime combat. the defense service ribbon entitles you to those groups; but yes you are a veteran if you served 90 days! hope this helps!

My brother in law is considered a veteran even though he was in Hawaii and never shot a gun, so yes. If you have an honorable discharge from the military you are a veteran.

No. Becouse you did not serve ACTIVELY in a war (Firing, Shooting, things that make war nowadays). Think it like this. COULD YOU have won ANY ribbons, medals, or honors at the time? If yes, you ARE a veteran. If no, you are NOT a veteran.
