RESPECT

I think that the most important thing that I can teach my son about is Jesus Christ and what he did for us. I plan on teaching him this by raising him in a way that Jesus would like, and by raising him in church. By raising him like this, he also learns all the other important things, like manners (do unto others as you would have them do unto you) and respect (honor thy mother and father) and that money isn't the most important thing in the world (if you bless God with what money you have, he will bless you back).

Responsibility
- Teach them by giving them chores
- Giving them an allowance and showing them how to save money and budget the rest.
- Discipline in the form of taking personal responsibility for your actions

These are the things my mother never taught me. I'm thankful everyday that my dad stepped in when I was 12 and I was lucky enough to learn this from him in the few years I lived with him.

I think the most important thing to teach children is compassion, and the best way (at least I hope so, anyway) is for me to lead by example.

To me, the most important thing to teach them is basics in moral behavior along with proper etiquette. That is one thing that seems to be failing in today's world thanks to the 2 income society and parents not being able to be at home to teach these values because they are to busy keeping a roof over there heads and before you know it they are graduating high school.....The best way to teach them anything is by example.......

Compassion. I taught this to my son by doing things like: he would pull my hair (at 2 or 3), and, while he was pulling I would pull his hair just as hard, and stop when he did. Then, when he did other things that were likely to hurt someone, I would ask him how he would feel if that same thing were done to him, getting him to realize that other people had the same kinds of feelings he had.

It worked. And how can you have true respect without compassion?

Respect and communication.
It takes a lot of time with a child and has to be put into the everyday routine.
Kids usually do as thier parents do.

Love for self and others
Respect for self and others
Responsibility for work and behavior
Praise the child for using these traits will increase the frequency and make the behavior automatic
Still working on two teens with these...the situations change but the traits remains as the grow older.

I'm 28 and have two children, one is 5 and other is 4..manners and respect.be strict to a point, allow them to make mistakes, listen to everything they have to say your their teacher...remember......understand they are kids and allow them to be one..don't yell at them for making mistakes like"having accidents" etc, or show shame no matter what they did, punish for the right reasons and try to remember they love you unconditionally even if your tired, sick and had a long day at work show them the same at all times. try not to fight in front of them with your husband, family members etc. they will remember that, besides at that most akward moment it may come back to bite you trust me! try not to show your frustration even if your struggling finacially, you have the power and motivation to make things fun w/out spending money! does this answer your question? hope so...
