Because Klitchko kicked his *** and he ran from the sport. I loved Lennox when he first got into the game. Now he's washed up and I have no respect left for him.

Because Klitschko had fought so well against Lewis, boxing fans soon began calling for a rematch. The WBC agreed, and kept the Ukrainian as its No. 1 contender. Lewis was evasive about fighting Klitschko a second time and ultimately decided to pursue other interests, including sports management and music promotion. On February 6, 2004, in a press conference held in London, Lewis became the first reigning lineal heavyweight titlist to relinquish the title since Rocky Marciano in 1956. Lewis said he will not return to the ring. At his retirement, Lewis' record was 41 wins, 2 losses and 1 draw, with 32 wins by knockout.

Gee.... Do all of you people really have to be so damn harsh on him and claim he ran away? He nearly tear Kiloschok's eyelid off so why the hell would he be scare?
The reason Lennox retire is because he want to get out and enioy his life more. He doesn't like to get up and go train for boxing every day especially boxing camp. It really put him through hell and it basically ruined his appetite to continue. but who can blame him? All of you guys should try go through what he did for a month, I bet most of you would drop out on the first week. Training is where most injuries occured as well. So over the years, all injuries and wearness start to piles up and take the tolls. Plus Lennox was around good people who also actually care about him so they didn't push him into continue and possibly encourage him to retire before his health goes down the drain.
Also after so many years in boxing, I'm sure he miss private life and free time.
Also once you have so much moneys, another couple millions isn't gonna to do much for you. So why would he want to continue for something he doesn't need?

All Lennox wanted was a fight with Tyson eversince he started boxing, it took him nearly 11 years to finally fight Tyson, after that he felt he was done with the big fights, the Klitcshco fight reminded him that he still needs to take himself and the sport serious if he wanted to continue, having fought Hollyfield twice and beating up Tyson is enough to fullfill a legacy, so therefore he decided to retire!
A big LOL @ Lennox fearing Klitchkso, that was the worse Lennox Lewis that Vitali fought, and he couldnt finish the job, even Rachman beat a better version of Lewis!

maximum boxers under no circumstances retire coming off of a win. because they experience that because they one they can proceed to field no rely there age. maximum boxers retire on a loss like Arturo Gatti because you should get beat up especially undesirable earlier you recognize you no longer have the abilities you take advantage of to. Lennox Lewis is between the few that has retired coming off a win. The smart aspect about Lennox is he has no want to ever comeback.

Lennox Lewis made a smart move - Retirement
He had enough MONEY,FAME & HW TITLE
Why hang around and let someone beat your
brains out. He was smart to get out early. Some
Fighters stay way too long (ALI) windup punchy.
or hurt from too many head shots.

In Lewis's case I think he's a really well balanced guy who has interests outside of boxing, so he didn't mind retiring young.

I think he got bored... lack of competition in the division, plus he'd gotten a lucky against Klitschko and decided to retire before his skills had diminished to the point he was going to get hurt. Still, he was a great champion and mostly underappreciated.. at least in the US.
