18 While he was still speaking, another also came and said, “Your sons and daughters were eating and drinking wine in their oldest brother’s house, 19 and suddenly a great wind came from across[d] the wilderness and struck the four corners of the house, and it fell on the young people, and they are dead; and I alone have escaped to tell you!”
20 Then Job arose, tore his robe, and shaved his head; and he fell to the ground and worshiped. 21 And he said:

“ Naked I came from my mother’s womb,
And naked shall I return there.
The LORD gave, and the LORD has taken away;
Blessed be the name of the LORD.”
22 In all this Job did not sin nor charge God with wrong.

Job 1:18-22 (New King James Version)

Could you be like Job and Praise the Lord if this happened to you?

my minister told me a story of a man who controlled the railway...His son wandered off and lost his ball on the tracks... coming was a train packed full of passengers knowing nothing of the danger that awaited his little son. The railway controller seen his son but knew it was too late to save him. it was either he save his son or sacrafice his sons life for about 300 others... some who may learn to love Christ later in their lives.... he obviously chose the others and his son was hit and killed... there are many stories like these of parents loosing their children, but are they really ever lost? of course not... they were really God's children anyways, he let you love them and raise them and blessed the woman with the job of giving birth. Yes, if anything it would bring me closer to the Divine Lord. although i would mourn and greive... i would turn to the Lord for comfort.

Well, keep in mind, Satan was the one that did that.

If my children were crushed by a house I would be devestated, but I wouldn't blame God. I would lean on Him for strength. He is the lifter of our heads.
If my children were all saved I wouldn't be so sad because they'd be in heaven :)
If they weren't, I'd be even more devestated.
I would praise God cuz I would know He could get me through the heartache.
So, yes, I would Praise the Lord.

Afterall, remember that in the end, Job received back double what he had lost.

Job knew that when bad things happen it isn't God's fault. God gave humans control of a perfect creation (Gen 1:26) but we messed up and sin entered the world (Gen3). This damaged the physical creation and made natural disasters possible. So who should we blame? People!
God does allow the effects of the sinful world to affect his children but will always use these to bring us closer to him and strengthen our discipleship. Eventually there will be a new heaven and a new earth and we will fully experience all that God originally intended for us.
Many people are able to show the same attitude as did Job, but we never know until we are at the point of testing.

That is courage!!! Job is a great example to me when times get hard in my life. I think He is a symbol of every man. I don't think I am the only one to be sorely tried in this life.

I sometimes feel like him to in that there are times when just as one trouble is going out the front door another is coming in the back door.

I had a rough day yesterday. But I made it through and this morning I found what I was looking for yesterday , that wonderful feeling of the presence of God.

That is a test to : when God seems to move away and see what I will do if I can't feel His presence. I'm learning that I need to be faithful to God whether I am in a spiritual high or a spiritual low.

It's not just about my choices in the good times but my choices in the bad times too.
Thank you for reminding me of these verses.

It has not happen...and, I don't have kids. But, if I did, I think the answer is yes. Yet, I can't say because God has not made me go through such a trail, but, bad things have happened and I still praise His name. Because He is worthy of praise, it doesn't matter what happens. God is God and He holds all things in His hands and whatever happens is in His plan...despite that we might not understand it. I don't always and I have to trust Him even in the bad times, like right now. But, I know God is faithful and that's enough for me. I've seen it and I believe it.

I would have the strength to build another house. Make more kids. The stuff could have happened as a result of possibilities. Quantum mechanics-- for each possibility, there is a dimension where it happens, and he was just the one who by coincidence had negative outcomes occur. If it was god, what did worshiping him get that guy.

what good does praise in this case do??? strengthen faith? ease concious? this is just another classic example of god is good no matter what happens. its BS! job was not patient.. he should have been a patient.. in a mental facility! what is the difference between a fool and a wise man? a very fine line ! a person can learn to accept this.. but praise? c'mon...its kinda like animal house during the hazing: " thank you sir,may i have another!" so, if you want to be accepted that bad, your willing to put up with any kind of cruelty. never a good message to send in my opinion...

Though Im probably the only Christian who cant stand the book of Job.... I have suffered the loss of a child and still managed to praise God. Not that my child was gone, but that I knew where she went and I have the choice to be with her someday.

Just Crying out "Lord Have Mercy" is a form of praise. because it acknowledging Him as Lord and acknowledging His power to grant mercy. It is up to Him if His mercy is the strength to get through this trial or to raise your children from the dead.

No I am not as faith filled as Job yet.

Obviously praising wrong Lord (of Lords) if giving place to such give and take, for God is an over giver, not an under taker. Hello!

What Job is saying is "allegory"(Gal 4), requires thinking.
Not to mention Solomon says such law law is all vanity.

The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ with you all. Amen.
