Both in their prime.

In any dream fight, it should automatically mean that both fighters are in their prime (if not,the then fight is senseless). Also why are you taking my dream fight questions (I have a book full of them). This is a hard fight to call because Joe could not knock out Walcott or Charles and they both are similar to Holmes. Holmes had a great jab and he was a good defensive fighter. Holmes had a good chin and a great will/heart (survived numerous knockdowns from several punchers). Holmes was knocked out by Tyson when he was 38 yrs. Louis would win by TKO in 14 after being behind on all cards.

Great fight between two fighters with great jabs. Joe Louis had more of a power jab and Holmes was a little faster. Joe would have an overwelming edge in punching power. I rate Joe Louis #2 all time behind Marciano and Holmes is in my top 10. I believe that Joe Louis would eventually catch up with Larry and TKO him in about 11 rounds.

Larry Holmes

Joe Louis. His punches, jabs were like tracer fire. He'd tee off and let rip with the full arsenal. Louis a great puncher, boxer good foot movement (economical), fast hands, physically, mentally strong and could box.

Larry Holmes. Fast hands and feet, great boxer, physically and mentally strong and could punch.

They are both similar in skills except one was a puncher and the other a boxer. They had a predecessor that came before them. Muhammad Ali and Jack Johnson respectively. They both could take a great shot even though they both had been knocked down.
Joe Louis knocked out. I would go for Joe Louis but it would be tough. Larry was one tough son of a *****.

Joe Louis would beat Larry Holmes.Louis, as many fighters of his time had many more bouts and Louis fought with heart. He had to go with racial prejudices against him and was a determined individual to suceed as he did with the second Schmeling bout. Holmes was a good fighter, bit lacked the skills that Joe Louis had.Louis was rated by a high source of boxing as one of the greatest fighters of all time, if not the greatest, Louis by KO in round 8

If they are fighting in Louis's time - Joe Louis
If they are fighting in holmes time - Larry Holmes
Holmes did noy have the Racial preasure that
Louis had, and I don't think Holmes could have
Handled it (Black man & A German) with Hitler
saying no black man could defeat a German.

I have to go with Louis on this one reluctantly. Louis never met a guy like Holmes, but Holmes reigned at a time when alot wasn't happening. Louis could move comparable to Spinks... but with real power.

Louis wins by ko in the first. Louis lost to Marciano.... Holmes lost to Spinks who then got slaughtered by Tyson.
