Become a good listener. Practice this: when in a conversation, respond to someone by saying, "if I heard you correctly, you said . . ." This will help increasy your understanding of what people are saying and make you more attentive. It's worked for me.
Also, take a speech class, a business communications class, and/or a human relations class. I have found these to be very helpful. Good luck and have patience. Good communication skills don't happen overnight.

Read, listen, and open up to people on every subject. If you don't know anything about a subject, ask questions. It's formula for life to do these things. You will not only learn things that were before so far reaching, but you will learn to share this new knowledge. Talk about things you know about and you will discover that other people have opinions of their own that you can elaborate on and learn from them as well. It's cycle of communication....I listen to you, you listen to me....we share....we learn, we improve one another.

You can observe people around you. I think observation is one of the key issues here. Body language is vital to you because it has a profound influence on people. It is more important than words according to researchers. Eye contact carries meaning more than you think. Just look at their eyes and be open. You can get help from your teachers and friends as well.

People really have conversations with people so they can talk themselves. If you listen more and maintain eye contact they will feel like you have really had a thorough talk, when all you did was listen. You know chicks love that stuff.

Keep communicating. The more you do something the better you get at it.

Don't use text message shorthand. Learn to capitalize the first word of a sentence and the "i" (in your question) should also be a capital.

Listen. Ask yourself if you are listening or waiting to talk.
