Google earth is a program from the google compnay, which allows you to view the entire planet and its surface. It does this presumably by assembling thousands of satellite photos of the planet. The detail of some areas, eg big cities is extraordinary and you can see what people have in their gardens!
It can be great fun looking at the earth, but its an odd experience don't you think, also is it a bit intrusive?
ALSO where abouts is AREA 51 , I want to look at it!!!!!!!!

I think it is pretty neat. As for intrusive not overly. They are all still shots. The one of my house was taken last summer. I don't feel as though i have being watched as the detail although impressive isn't perfect and they aren't filming round the clock and providing live action shots of earth.
Besides that point on an average day out an about you are generally going to be filmed dozens of times everywhere from stores to cross walks to parks. There are some cities that have their high risk areas under constant 24 hour surveillance. Comparatively, i am not too freaked out by a still shot.

Google maps is swell.
Follow the link below for info about Area 51, including geographical coordinates.
Also, check this out... there was a plane flying by when the satellite took the picture. It looks like there's an airplane sitting in the middle of the neighborhood. It's at these coordinates: 32.9332,-96.71697

It's cool. You cannot see anything in too much detail, so it's not too intrusive. If people want to keep things private, they shouldn't be outside anyway. For Area 51, just type in "Area 51" and you'll be taken there.

Intrusive, yes, courtesy of the United States Government.
In terms of Google's technology, it's a nice resource, but I would rather the satellites which facilitated the image database had not been used to photograph private property.

It ain't too bad if you're computer has a compatible operating system (XP), and is connected to the Internet.... my computer still only has Windows '98SE (not compatible)...... and when I briefly tried it on a computer at a Work Placement I finished a couple of months ago.... it wasn't bad (but the computer didn't have an internet connection, since it was the outdoor centre's cast off hand-me-down for those of us on the placement to use).

Google Earth is fun, but I think fiddly. I've been trying to compare it with http://www.geoportail.fr
Unfortunately although our vacation place is just 5 km. over the French border, geoportail stops exactly at the border, so we run the comparison on territory we know.
There's an interseting blog on Google Earth. See below.

Its pretty cool. But a lot of times it doesnt come in too clear, so thats a minus. But a plus is that some areas come in very clear, I can see the roof of my friends house on it!
