White. "In the beginning there was nothing. And then God said Let There Be Light. And there was light." (Genesis) Since darkness, or black, is the absence of all colour, then light must be white which is made up of all colours on the spectrum.

I agree that it must be black. But if you are actually looking to a refrence of color I think its green.

Black. In the beginning prior to "light" there was nothing. Nothing is equated as being darkness. Without light is Black! Good Luck
