The star and crescent is commonly regarded as a symbol of Islam. It is featured prominently on the flags of many countries in the Islamic world, notably Turkey, Malaysia, and Pakistan. The crescent and star are believed to be the traditional insignia of the city of Constantinople (now Istanbul), capital of the Byzantine Empire. They were proudly adopted by the Ottoman Turks when they conquered Constantinople and put an end to many centuries of Byzantine rule. The Ottomans established the Ottoman Empire, which ruled much of the Middle East and North Africa for centuries. The Ottomans claimed to have inherited the caliphate and the right to represent all Islam; hence their star and crescent banner was, for a time, the banner of much of Sunni Islam. However, some say that the crescent is ultimately derived from the cult of the goddess Diana or Artemis, the Greek and Roman goddess of the moon, and that it was retained even after the Roman Empire converted to Christianity.

Your history lesson, while interesting, is NOT the reason some Muslim countries use a moon and star on their flags. The crescent moon is the signal at the end of Ramadan (the month of fasting) which lets Muslims know that the Eid holiday will be the next day! This symbol has come to be one of happiness and celebration as a result!
It's true that paganism existed throughout the Arab world prior to Islam - but suggesting that Islam is rooted in such belief is highly inaccurate!

Right, and Jews worship stars and Christians worship this plus sign which they call a "cross".
If someone called moon a god, that makes God of Muslims false? I can show you 1000 people who still worship such thing and use the same words that you use for the Biblical God and Jesus.
Is it possible that the cresent moon is a symble of something? No, I don't think so, it must be the moon God of us Muslims and about 20 million Arab and about 5 million Asian Christians who live around India and Pakistan.
Don't waste your time my friend, for once, use the common sense and do about 5 mintues of research which will show you the concept of God in Islam.

The Hebrew word saharon translated as ornaments in Judges 8:21 means crescent, moon and comes from the root word sahar which is the word used for the name of Satan in Isaiah 14: Hilal ben Sahar. Flag of Turkey with the crescent and star. The King James Bible translates Hilal as Lucifer and the full phrase means morning star/crescent moon. The crescent moon and star are Islamic symbols and according to Mr. Shoebat this means that "Islam and the name of Satan are one and the same." The image of the crescent moon and star are prevalent throughout the Islamic world and may possibly reflect the image of the Antichrist/Mahdi. (p.380-387)

it is not to depict that the crescent signifies a deity, only as a mark to differentiate it from other independent countries just as non muslim states do.It would be rather odd if an islamic state have a cross on their flag, isn't it?
although some islamic school of thoughts said it is a symbolism of paradise, not the moon goddess.
Unlike Saudi Arabia that has arabic writings on its flag, stating " I bear witness that there is no god but God and i bear witness that mohammad is His messenger"., there is no code among muslims what to put in their flags except the figures or shapes of animals or men or any undesireable thing. To imitate that of Saudi Arabia may create confusion as to identity of a state.
Islam did develop different forms of identification to differentiate itself from others, specially christian. Such as, for the christian, the bell is used to call for prayer, so islam used others, such is the man who calls worshippers using his voice.

Allah is simply the Arabic word for God -- it is also used by Arabic Christians and is in Arabic translations of the Bible.
Hubal was referred to as the mood GOD -- does this mean Christians who refer to the creator are worshiping Hubal? Your logic makes as much sense as this statement.

Algeria, Azerbaijan, Comoros, Malaysia, Maldives, Mauritania, Pakistan, Tunisia, Turkey and Uzbekistan.
When God created man he told all the angels to bow before his new creation but the greatest of all the Angel Lucifer didn't bow he said "why should I bow to something tht's made of dust when i'm made of fire". There are three arc angels Lucifer, Gabrielle and Michael. There was a war in heaven one side lead by Lucifer and the ther by Michael. Michael and his angels defeated Lucifer and he and 2/3 of heavens angels fell to hell, Lucifer became Satan (because his a liar and a tempter ie devil) and his angels became demons. The demons are arrogant and liked to be worshipped as God's.
Exo 20:2-4
I am the LORD thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. Thou shalt have no other gods
before me. Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth
beneath, or that is in the water under the earth: (Not even pictures of Jesus... so that you won't be tempted to worship it).
Deu 4:12
And the LORD spake unto you out of the midst of the fire: ye heard the voice of the words, but saw no similitude; only ye heard a voice.

What christians and others call pagan today was once a fully-respected religion. It is quite possible that 5000 years from now, todays religions will be called pagan.
