Trust him with his judgement. Hopefully he will choose the right direction. Just remember you have to let go of the apron strings....even if it hurts some. TRUST. that is the best answer I could give you.

If he's old enough to be college bound, chances are pretty good this isn't his first experience with drinking at a party! Simply tell him you're trusting him be responsible enough to make his own decision, but if that decision is to drink, he should also be responsible enough not to drive or get into a car with someone who was drinking and that he can call you at any hour for a ride - without the worry of your getting angry, lecturing, etc. Then stick to your word!!

It depends on how old he is, 17-18.. let him go. Any younger than that I'd say no way.
It's just best for him to get a taste of the college life (drinking), and figure out if that will be what he wants to do w/his schooling career. Some drink all week and maintain a 4.0.. don't worry.

If your son doesn't want to drink, tell him to carry around a glass of Pepsi, orange juice, or water. Also, remind him never to leave his glass unattended and if it is throw it out. Since he is college bound your going to have to trust him to do the right thing. Just remind him that underage drinking is a crime and an arrest could affect the rest of his life's plans.

I think that you should talk to him about consequences of drinking and driving and tell him to call you if he or his friends have been drinking so that won't happen. I think you should tell him there's more to life than drinking that is more important.
