Divide them into 3 or 4 groups of toys and box them up by group. Then rotate in which toys are being played with this week. Too many toys don't work well for the kids either; the choice can be overwhelming. By rotating the toys the child can benefit from them all.
Of course anything too advanced or too young can be put away for the appropriate time or next child.

Haha, I'm in the same boat as you are! My baby is 9 months and there's already so many toys and clothes she is too big for! I am going to hold on to the necessary stuff for baby #2. Why don't you either place ads in the local newspaper or bring them to a second hand store. Maybe you could sell some on e-bay. Do you have any friends or family that are expecting or in need of some toys? You could always give to the Salvation Army too! Good luck! It adds up fast!

I have the same problem with my daughter. A lot of the toys are still in good shape, and she would play with them, if she could get to them that is... My solution has been to go through them every couple of months, and separate them. Get rid of the toys she doesn't play with anymore, and put some of the good ones that she does play with in storage. I put some of my daughter's in boxes in the garage, and switch them out every once in a while. When ever she gets some of the old ones back, she's all excited, it's like she just got new ones all of a sudden. Meanwhile, she's got just enough to keep in one toy box in her room.

Throw out the broken ones and donate the good ones to a charity like Purple heart, Goodwill or Salvation army. There's always a kid out there who'd love some toys - used or not.

Put half of your kids toys away in a laundry basket and put them in the spare room or in the basement and once every afew months switch the toys around so the toys you took away will be new to your child. Thats what I did.

Lori said it best. We had the same problem you do. My mom suggested "rotating" toys and it works out great. Every few months will will put 2 containers away and bring out 2 more. My kids think they are getting new toys.

Sell Toys ON EBAY if they cost MONEY..... Stop buyin your child toys all the time.. and you wont end up with a CLUDDER.. Limit the toys in one BOX.. and no more.. Kids who have so many toys just throw them to the side and forget about them anyways...
So save money and sell the toys...

my daughter has alot of toys too, i go through her toys everytime her birthday, christmas or easter comes around, and i get rid of toys that i notice she doesn't play with anymore, i have a toy box in the livingroom for her and she has a toy box in her room. she hardly plays in her room, so she doesn't pay attention to her toys in her room, so every couple of months, i switch some of her toys in the livingroom with some of her toys in her room. I mainly get rid of her small toys, like all the toys from fast food resturants and every summer i try to get rid of some of her big toys in a yard sale, that im sick of seeing around and she never plays with. Toys are a never ending thing for kids, everytime we get rid of toys, they just get more during the holidays!

Get organized! Rubber maid totes, label maker, and these little shelf things with shelves. and in the garage if you have one build shelves to out these rubber maid totes on. My mom went through the same thing with all of mine and my sister's toys. label the totes by age group, or whose they are, or when you got them. and make sure to sort through the pricey toys and the McDonald toys. Also, when packing add dryer sheets to the bottom to keep them smelling nice. Don't forget to get any food particles out of the little areas on the toys.
-- Shelf thing i was talking about. use this for your current toys that ou still want out. http://www.target.com/gp/detail.html/ref=sc_pgc_r_12_0_10323431/602-3596734-7458263?%5Fencoding=UTF8&frombrowse=1&asin=B0000CEJWZ
