Ok bird prices are generally lower in CA because there are lots of bird breeders in CA.

Now the cheapest places that sell tame hand fed lovebirds that make great pets are family owned pet stores that hand feed and sell the birds themselves, the price is lower because they are not affiliated by a corporation and smaller pet stores can devote more time to socializing the birds.

If you don't mind possibility an older lovebird(s), ask around. Try your local small ad papers and the Humane Society. People are always giving up birds as they are not what the people expected or can no longer take care of them or are moving. Place an ad in a small local paper, it's cheaper than the cost of the birds.

The best place to buy any bird is from the breeder, not from pet shops. They charge way over the top. Look in bird magazines, bird clubs or vets ,also bird shows you can buy some really nice birds.
