in Matthew 12:40, Jesus said: "For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of a huge fish, so the Son of Man will be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth."

Let's see, buried on a Friday....one night. Dead all day Saturday, two nights. Rose from the dead Sunday Morning......ooops, no more nights.

Was Jesus mistaken, or did he lie when he said he would be buried for three nights?

He was burried in a tomb and rose again 3 days later.

I believe He was in the tomb for a full three days, just like He said. What has happened over the years is that those who do not understand the requirements of the Jewish feasts assumed that the "Sabbath" that the religious leaders spoke of, when they asked Pilate to have the criminals' legs broken was a Friday. (John 19:31)

However, in Leviticus, we see that there is a "special" Sabbath that is connected to the Feast of Unleavened Bread, which occurs 7 days after it begins. It is separate and in addition to, a normal Sabbath beginning on a Friday evening. (See Leviticus 23:4ff)

Chuck Missler has a wonderful explanation, which goes into more detail I can relay, so I'll just give you the link.

No, Jesus did not lie. The Jews considered any part of a day a full day. If you doubt this, read the parable of the rich man who hired people to harvest the grapes. And He was not buried, but He was entombed and if you count Friday, and Saturday, the Jewish Sabbath, and he rose on the third day as he said he would. Now go back to your illiterate life, and leave me and mine alone. And by the way, I will be praying for you, as will all my fellow Christians on here. And one final point, at no time in his life, has Jesus lied.

First of all do more research. It does not say he was "buried" in the earth three days. When you figure out what it is actually talking about maybe you would like to rewrite your question and post it again.

-----------JESUS'S DEATH------------
***JESUS DIED WEDNESDAY APRIL 14, 31AD (3 P.M.)

A good foundation (1Tim.6:19) has solid ground evidence. The foundation should include 2Tim.3:16; Isaiah 28:9-10; 2Peter 1:19-21; 1Thess.5:20-21 & Ephes.5:9-10,13. To understand deeply--you must use these websites:

If you read Daniel 9:27; it says "he died in the middle of the week"; that would be Wednesday. This is followed by "3 days & 3 nights" = Matthew 12:40 which equals 1-24hr.day x 3days equals 72hrs. in grave. Next the Bible tells us it would be "after 3days and "not before = Matt.27:63-64 and Mark 8:31. It tells us in three days (John 2:19-21) and not after. The Bible also reminds us a day is 12hrs. not including the night(John 11:9-10). Remember also Gen.1:5 and Lev.23:32 tells us "evening to evening" is considered to be a day.

Now I know this is true because the MAJORITY(Matt.7:13) is always wrong. Also there's many clues that it wasn't a Friday crucifixion and a Sunday resurrection; look at 2Tim.2:18. But you will point out Mark 16:9 which says "Now when Jesus was risen[the perfect tense is correct here--he was already risen] early the first day of the week, he appeared first to Mary Magdalene." Now the original Greek didn't have no punctuation. If the King James translators put a comma after the word "risen" and not after "week", this would make complete sense. The Centenary Translation renders it this way: "Now after his resurrection, early on the first day of the week he appeared first to Mary Magdalene

no

he was LAID in a Tomb... An actual cave, above the surface of the earth, only blocked by a boulder/ rock

plus he ascended from this earth...ie physical world

remember...every bible translates it a little different, but the best translation comes from the actual greek directly

There may have been a leap day in there (Jewish calenders, ya know).

If he was in a tomb and not the earth, was he wrong on two counts?
