Get warm water flowing gently from your bathroom sink & wash the kitten there with Shampoo made for CATS & Kittens. Not human stuff, it is too drying & harsh. Gently hold the kitten and rub the shampoo like you're petting/massaging the cat. Rinse in sink turning kitten but not drowning it. Squegee dry with your hands, then dry with a big fluffy towel. The kitten will look tiny, angry & like a drowend rat. Towel off again with a new towel and then let the kitten sulk. Bandage your wounds, if any. Give a kitty treat or toy & be comforting when the kitten decides to come out of hiding. Lie & promise the kitten you will never try to bathe it again.

Give your kitten a hair cut to get rid of the lumpy bit. If you can't face doing it, contact your local cattery who will do it for you. On a regular basis comb the jacket, as all long haired breeds are prone to get really matted/knotty jackets.

You can take the cat to the groomer and they can cut out the mat and even out the fur so that the cat doesn't look stupid and the mat is gone!!! Hope I helped!!!

If it's mud let it dry and brush it out if its poo. cut it out. If its poo round its bum cut the fur from all round to stop it sticking again cause that can cause fly strike and that's really nasty.
