those two breeds (staff/boxer and lab or retriever). the energy levels are very different. people don't often think about their lifestyle when considering a dog, but it's very improtant to consider whether you are the type of people who will take high-energy dogs outside a lot for exercise or whether the dog will spend a lot of time in the house alone while you're at work.

look into the dominant characteristics of the breeds you're considering and examine whether their personalities are likely to mesh with you and you're current dog.

I would consult your vet, because certain breeds of dogs are more territorial than others. You want to make sure that the dog you already own will be compatible with another breed. Also, is your current dog afraid of any other breeds? Does he/she get nervous around bigger dogs? Would your current dog feel threatened by another pet in the house. These are all things to consider, as your one year old dog is the first. Once you figure these things out, then you can determine which breed. I would suggest having your Terrier/Boxer meet a potential new dog before you purchase it. Then, you can see the interaction between the two and determine if it is healthy. The worse case scenario would be that you get another dog, and your two dogs don't get along. So, if anything, that is the most important thing. As far as what breed to get, how is your current dog trained? Does he/she go outside, on a potty pad, etc... One thing to think about is if you want your two dogs trained in the same way. For example, it may be more work if you have one dog that is trained outdoors, and one that is trained indoors. Also, something to think about is if you are more indoor/outdoor people. Bigger dogs need more room, so if you live in a smaller home or if there isn't much room to run, I would suggest a smaller dog (especially since you will have two). Larger dogs also have more of a need to go on walks than smaller dogs. I have a Yorkie/Chihuahua mix dog and she is able to run around full speed in our house because she is so small. So she never has the need to go on walks because she gets her exercise already! :) But larger dogs need more room to stretch their legs.

I put some good sites in the 'sources' section. Also, you may want to try and find some kind of quizzes on Google to take to find out which pet would match your personality best. But again, I would consult your vet. GOOD LUCK!!

Mixed breed! They are wonderful.

I recommend www.petfinder.org

You can search your area for the size and age you want. Many of these dogs are being cared for in foster homes, so they are well socialized with other dogs. This will make the transition much easier!!

Either retriever would be a good choice - as long as your StaffxBoxer is good with other dogs! If not, you need to be VERY careful introducing them or the pup may end up dead. Get a pup of the opposite sex and they will get along better.

I recommend a Brittany spaniel. When I lived in Florida I got a Brittany Spaniel shipped all the way from Kansas and he is a wonderful dog! I gave it to my dad for Valentine's Day and he named it Bubba. They shed, but they are wonderful dogs, great around kids, and very lovable. Oh and they are also very cute!!!!!!

I would check with the AKC web site to see which dogs get along with the dog you have before I got another one.
