And He said unto them, "Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.
"He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.
"And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;
"They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover." Mark 16:15-18

It might help to understand and know that most of those religious people just QUOTE the bible, but they dont study it for themselves.
Actually the bible supports evolution, God says that life begins when you breathe, a homosexual is really supposed to be read as pedophile (the bible folks translated it wrong) David was gay, Jesus was a descendant of David, and oh yeah Hell isnt anything more than a grave, and you cant feel anything when you die.
God does come back to make everything new and better, and keeps the wicked ones out. You might not be a believer now, but I know you will get a second chance. God loves you still. =)

Hmmm. My only question to you is how can say you believe and support Jesus but not the Bible when in fact the person of Jesus is learned from the Bible. If the Bible is not the word of God then your idea of Jesus is not from God, which means Jesus would be in the same category as Moby Dick and Huckleberry Fin - a man made concuction

The bible was written by man ,but inspired by God. I don't know about all the changes you mention. I'm not disputing that it's true . I just don't know about them. I do know from my own experience the Holy Bible is a powerful thing. When you read it with an open heart, truly seeking Gods ways and knowledge. It will change you inside and change your life for the better. People believe whatever they want to believe. I could sit here all day and tell you the things that have taken place in my life. I could tell you all the answers the bible has given me to solve problems. How my love for God grows more and more when I read his word. If you have your mind made up to be against God and his Holy word it wouldn't matter. Faith isn't something that you can convince people of. You can pray that God touch their hearts and minds to be open to him. If you read his word with a skeptical attitude you might not get the blessings you would otherwise. If God is calling you and tugging at your heart to know him better. You will see things more clearly in his word. He knocks at our hearts all the time, but he can only enter if you let him. The way I've always explained the importance of the Bible and reading it daily is this. When we pray we are speaking to God. When we read the Bible he is speaking to us. Directly to our hearts. Too many people read with an attitude. They are looking for mistakes ,contridictions, etc. Read without the attitude . read with an open heart to Gods love. Give him a chance to come in. It will completely change your life for the better. I am living proof of that. That is all the proof I need to know the Bible is God inspired. God Bless You I hope you find what you are searching for. I will pray for you.

Why does everything have to be so literal with you people? Why can't you realize it's more the inspiration in the words than the words themselves? The bible was written thru man BY GOD with the knowledge that different people would see different meanings in the words. Get off the "gotta prove it" deal and live with the fact that SOME of us KNOW what it means and some of you are just too lazy or self righteous to even READ it

Very good question, really, and one that I was wondering about myself, just last night!
I think it depends a lot on people's state of mind. If they are in a stage of development that emphasizes following rules and keeping order, then I would say that they go for a literal interpretation of the bible.
They need something to believe in -- a standard to measure things against...
And that's okay, but I also believe that they evolve into different stages with different emphasis.
Essentially, in life, it 'takes all kinds'.
Sometimes it might seem like an unmitigated disaster, but really, there is more going on at any time than meets the eye. Surprising turns of events can occur when you least expect them!
Or, as a friend of mine used to be fond of saying: 'things have to get worse before they can get better'.
Anyway, take care and good luck in your journey, friend.

The Bible claims to be inspired of God, 2Timothy 3:16,17.
You will not believe that unless you investigate it, with an open mind and heart, and IF you come to the conclusion it is the truth, then you will believe God inspired it.
The ones who have gone through this process believe the whole Bible.
Have I bothered you? God will not let *people be* forever, there is a judgment. Jesus came to call sinners to repentance.

Because those who question the Bible would rather believe in the impossible, not what really happened.
God inspired those men to write down His word. He did not have them put down everything He knows, just what we need to know. And for that, we should be very grateful. I seriously can't imagine a world without God. And even I have done terrible things, but nothing as horrible as renouncing God.

Obviously you have not studied about the Bible-everything you said was wrong. There exist no document on this planet that has withstood the criticism that the Bible has. Many educated and not so educated people disagree with the Bible-but no one can say that it is false or has error in it with out being a liar. That argument has been put to rest long ago.

Very good point. I've always believed in a few things, 1- religion is man made and that no one religion is perfect. 2 that the bible is a great book to read to have some idea of how it used to be back then. 3- that man is stupid, how can you be the judge of what people need to know, how could the Vatican have the power to hide or destroy books that may provide information on past life.

I think it is because biblical literalist christians are fear full of burning in hell for all eternity. They fear it so much(and why wouldn't anyone if it where true). and I believe this fear stops them from being critical about the bible. They seem to be aware that christian scholars can be critical of the bible, but they dare not do it themselves. Maybe they get some comfort thinking that if this God finds fault with themselves, they can throw off on the pastors and priest etc. They can essentially blame the christian leaders, that 'god' allowed to be entrusted with his word.
If you were told, any error with your theology could send you to a place where you will be tortured for all eternity, and you didnt know better, wouldn't you be less likely to think differently to what is being preached about the bible? less inclined to be critical of the particular version of the bible in your hands? I know I would.
thankfully I know better. Now. (I am now without belief in God(atheist))
This is not meant to be a sarcastic answer, i really think that this has alot to do with the 'literal biblicists' frame of mind. I think this answer is a very reasonable one, even some christians may agree.
