He has just recently been to the vet, and they did an exploratory surgery on him to check and make sure he didnt swallow anything. They dewormed him and gave him advantage for fleas. He also got a perscription canned food called a/d.
He lost about 6-8 lbs before we took him to the vet. When he eats his canned food, he doesnt throw up, but sometimes he'll sneak into the other cats food, and I know that is what is doing it.
Could it be a food allergy? The other cats are doing fine. I think it's Alley Cat, or Atta Kitty, I threw the bag away.
Please help! I cant afford anymore vet visits!

My vet said that dry cat food can make some cats throw up. Try Science Diet for Sensitive Stomachs dry food for cats. My cat does not throw up when he eats that.

The cat is probably allergic to a component in the dry food. Try this: Put all the dry food for the other cats in another room (service bathroom, closet etc) and only open the door to let them in at feeding time or try to give them small amounts of dry food and put the rest back after they're done eating (and don't let the sick cat in while they eat). This way you'll be keeping your cat safe and healthy.

Try this....its sounds werid but works great...give the cat yogert with the live cultures. Wet the dry cat food so its moist and then add a little yogert. Works great. My cat who is 14y used to do this all the time...not in 3 years now

It may just be food allergies. Try getting a brand of cat food that is allergy-safe (if there is such a thing). Like Science Diet or something. It may cost more, though, than grocery store cat food, and can only be bought at a pet store.

U may need to switch the food to some type of hypo-allergenic food.food allergens can sprout up very suddenly almost over night.I would take ur kitty to a vet that deals strickly with cats and have her tested for food allergens.my cat passed last year from the same thing.

It could be becuase of the rapid switching of its diet. I tried switching my cats dry food diet to another brand of dry food and every time he threw up. If you stick to one brand, do not change to dry food or wet food so rapidly. Slowly start to mix them together adding more and more each day to their origional food.

some cat food is full of fillers like feathers...
petsmart has better quality food... pro plan is a good one... walmart has a brand named maximumm which i think is comparable to pro plan and i feed that to my kitty's...
what suggestion did the vet give about feeding the kitty....
if the cat tolerates canned food better i dont know what the harm in feeding him that could be... dry is better but if he cant get it down what good is it... and they have already searched for answers in surgery....
if you do use wet food, dont mix this and that... i used to think i was spoiling my cat with different flavors, but that is not good for kitty... their systems are delicate and changes in food cause problems...whenever switching it is best to mix some new with the old, little new, then little more..like that...

i agree with the hair ball - pounce makes a cat treat that helps with hair balls - my cat hasn't had ANY since i started giving them to her. also if your cat is eating the dry after the canned - maybe he's eating too much?
