I wear contacts and ordered my contacts through 1-800-contacts last year to avoid having to pay for an eye exam every year rather than every other year. However, I went back this year and it cost me almost 4x as much as the previous visit because not only did he do an eye exam, but he did a "contact lens exam." The total of the exams were around $155. Plus I paid about $140 for new lenses in my glasses and another $250 for the contacts. I know I got porked... which I didn't expect at all since I've been seeing this same doctor for 12 years. It's time for a change, what are y'all paying for eye exams nowadays?

Let me give you a suggestion...if you only wear contacts...get your eye exam for contacts @ Walmart...I paid $85 for the exam and once they give you the prescription (it's good for 2 years), you can order your contacts online...I use visiondirect.com, I pay $15 + shipping for each box of Acuvue 2...and you can also log on to couponcabin.com and search for online coupons for visiondirect.com, I usually get free shipping and 10% of my order...this saves A LOT of money...

With my insurance...only $20. But my eye doctor charges $75 for the eye exam. I remember spending $100 a couple of years ago for the complete eye exam with contact lens fitting at LensCrafters. I guess it depends on where you go.

i work for an optometrist... and we charge $49 for an eye exam....and then either $40/$60 on top of that if you want to be fitted for contacts...the reason why the doctor has to do the eye exam portion is because thats the part that tells you what the prescription is...without that part he/she cannot fit you for contacts...now the contact lens fitting is also very hard...because the doctor has to get the cylinder, axis and base curve PERFECT...with the contacts...get used to paying about this much...if you dont like it get vision insurance...i.e. spectera..superior..avesis...
