huh? u appear to have some slightly off theology. What kind of Christianity was he talking about? The one I know is all about God's grace that makes us his sons and daughters simply by us having faith. If u have faith u are a Christian, whether you live up to it or not. And in being a Christian you r a son/daughter anyway.
Having faith in God allows Him to turn us into mini-christs. That's what it's all about - becoming like God and reflecting his glory as we do so.
'Christian' is just a name for those who believe that Christ came to fulfill the Torah and all the Old Testament promises; it turned up in the latter half of the 1st century AD. Christians were originally Jews that accepted that the Messiah had arrived, so they would have obeyed all the rules in the Torah. Then there's stuff in Acts about Peter being told to go and share the Good News with the gentiles. (story of the non-kosher food coming down on the blanket)
And by the way, if you call new 2005 years old then.....well then, what's old???

If your pastor really knew what he was talking about he wouldn't of said such. If you are to become like Jesus then you must leave Christianity and become jewish. After all he was a jewish Rabbi, not a Christian. I don't agree with what he said only because it is the religion that teaches us to be with the divine. Without religion there is no deity
By the way did I say I was a Witch?

Briefly, the word Christian, was divine; Acts 11:26. We should not leave Christianity. We can become Sons, when God adopts us. Then we will be sons. Those who are baptized in the Holy Spirit are already Sons.
Romans 8:14 -23 All who are led by God's Spirit, these are God's sons...21) that the creation itself, also WILL be set set free from enslavement to corruption and have the glorious freedom of the children of God.
23) Not only that, but we ourselves also who have the firstfruits, namely, the spirit, yes, we ourselves groan within ourselves, while we are earnestly waiting for adoption as sons, the release from our bodies by ransom.
God does the adopting, then there are Sons.

Wow, what an interesting thought.
I would have to disagree though. Christian means to be "Christ like." Which makes it inherent that Jesus Christ was not a Christian, since he is the word that Christian is based on. To be christian, and thus christ like, stands that we should strive to be a son (or daughter) of God.
To leave Christianity, is to leave the process of becoming Christ like. You state "because we as believers want to be like Jesus" which is all that Christian means. It is a state of mind. Of striving. To be like the Christ.
Christian also means
professing believe in Jesus as Christ or following the religion based on the life and teachings of Jesus, relating to or derived from Jesus or Jesus' Teachings, manifesting the qualities or spirit of Jesus; (Christlike).
Well I disagree with the statements themselves, I do believe that the intent has some merit.
I think that if he meant that we needed to take the focus of being "christian" (the religion) and we needed to return our focus to being Christlike.
By definition it is the same thing, sometimes in practice it gets lost.
Just my two cents.

I don't think some people get the concept, but 'Christian' is just a name. If we call ourselves Christians or Sons of God...same thing. The title is not the important issue, but who we are inside. If we have accepted Jesus as Lord and strive to become more like him..then that's what matters.
It's like saying, "We should not thrive to be cops, but let's be policemen". That's the way I look at it.

I wouldn't buy that, girl.
Christianity shouldn't be that complicated.
Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No man cometh unto the Father but by Me."
Try to live a Christ-like life, sure, but do not go and assume that you are on the same level as Jesus to God.
That guest preacher is either a deceiver, or he needs to be a little more clear on what he is preaching.

Yeah, I agree. However Christianity teaches that we need to become like Jesus....so we can be part of a "religion" and still be sons of God.

Just because you hear a preacher tell you something does not make it so.Search the scriptures about Christianity and go from there.Christianity is not a new thing. It was talked about long before our time.Religion on the other hand I can see the Pastor telling you to get away from that. Just search the Bible and talk to God. God Bless

Sounds dangerously close to a heresy which the Mormon church picked up. We are called Christians because we follow the teachings of Jesus and accept His atoning sacrifice and IMPUTED RIGHTEOUSNESS, which allows us to come before the throne of God.
If we sidestep the Cross, then all we have to bring us before the throne of God is self-righteousness, which the Bible says are filthy rags before God, and which He will reject.
This heresy goes all the way back to the serpent in the garden "you will be like God".
Nope. Never will. But we will be perfected, transformed through faith in Jesus.

Easy. Jesus was God, you're going to find it very difficult to have insights like His with the use of a group of spiritual fellows. Plus, you have to watch it if you come up with something that disagrees with previous decisions. Many people in non-catholic churches don't like Catholic teachings, but it would be good to at least attempt to argue against Catholic teachings to learn the type of concise thought necessary for spiritual formation.
The apostles discussed such issues in group, one person is simply not enough to satisfy the criteria.
