Religion is a belief on a spiritual/divine being and includes all the customs/practices. So everything that has to do with belief on a divine something is religion. Some people here deny they have religion and instead call them Christians but that's rationalizing. The whole world knows what religion is so no need to make your own definition. Only fundamentalists call themselves christians though, to deny catholics, protestants and orthodox of any linkage to christianity. They do this because they don't have real history to prove they anything to do with the early christian church(ask any fundamentalis of some christians they know during the early church and they'd claim the early church fathers. But ask them one from the 500 or 1100s even 1800s and they'd go blank.). Its like being new to the game and wanting to undermine the old players by changing the rules.

Christianity started a long time ago based on what people witnessed. Peter was a fisherman. A crass man to say the least. But when the Lord said follow me he did. He went on to be a witness for all he seen Jesus do. He was crucified upside down because he felt he had no right to be crucified as Christ was. The apostles in the Bible was direct witnesses of the things Jesus did. So no Christianity is not a religion. Christianity is a fact.

Many think of it as being one.

Religions are man made precepts, instituted to establish rule and authority. What sets Christianity apart is that in its true form, it is instituted by God, independent of denominational doctrine and dogma. A Christian is a disciple, one who professes belief in the teachings of Jesus Christ. They do this because God actively interacted with them and their lives. Following the various denominational beliefs may lead one to the truth, but it is the personal, spiritual invitation of the Spirit of God, touching the individual heart and soul of believers, that sets Christianity apart. It becomes more than "religious dogma". It becomes a new life. That is why they say "born again".

The differing interpetations and translations of the Word, the logic and reasonings of the religious and non-believers, the real or apparent contridictions of belief; all pale to the individuals experience and knowledge that there is a living God, real and dynamic, wanting to be in relationship with them. It all just doesn't matter anymore. "Religion" takes a back seat to truth.

Before followers of Christ were called Christians, they were refered to as followers of "The Way". This probably comes from what Jesus said ..."I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me". This is an exclusive claim that Christianity is the only way to God. It relegates all "religions" into mankinds endeavors to reach God or enlightenment, and/or mere shawdows of the truth. Millions have found Christ's statement to be true.

Yes
There is a big difference between living in a spiritual way and following a structured religion.
Being a chrisitian does mean following guidlines for living a good life but it does not follow that all Christians are in touch with their spirituality.
No offence Christians I came through numerous churches and was 'born again' but I did nt connect with my true spirituality until i had a near death experience

Christianity is considered one of the major world religions...but for me it is the belief in Christ period. No bounds to a church or rules of a religion...just freedom....it's the whole message of Christianity

No. Christian means to be Christ like. To live and walk and be as much like Jesus Christ as we can after accepting Him as our savior and repent of our sins and invite Him into our lives and hearts. If you took the name Christ out of the word Chrsitian, all you have left are the letters 'IAN" Those letters stand for I Am Nothing with out Christ.
