I take Zoloft in combination with Wellbutrin and they in concert with each other does a very good job. It's not perfect but it makes life bearable. Remember, everyones body chemistry is different, what works for me may not work for you.

I was prescribed zoloft at 15 (keep in mind that was 9 years ago) it was horrible for me. Zoloft actually magnified my depression and altered my personality a bit. Come to find out that at that time reseachers had not yet determined wether or not Zoloft was suitable for people under 18, now they know it isn't.(but for some reason some Drs. are still prescribing it to minors!) Zoloft can mess with your inhibitions and your ability to control your actions (you could engage in activities you wouldn't normally take part in, potentally dangerous ones, such as commiting/attempting suicide, but there are many others as well) so if you are under the age of 18 or have any impulse control disorders (zoloft can magnify these) such as OCD or TTM don't take it, there are plenty of other effective antidepresents out there.
If your over 18 and don't have any impulse control disorders, i have heard good things about it, but i've also heard not so good. My advice is to read up as much as possible on all of your options and weigh the benifits against the side effects, the best decision is a well informed decision.

I've been taking it for about two weeks now. I can't say that it is DEFINITELY helping.
I feel better, but also because I quit drinking on June 29 of this year. I also started an intensive outpatient program, been trying to eat and sleep better, I go to 12-step meetings, I exercise, I cut off "friends" who are bad influences, I've been reading the bible and praying like crazy. I've been also taking time to do enjoyable, healthy, and safe things. I think the medication is just one small piece of the puzzle.
People (especially my mom) keep asking me "Are the meds working? Are the meds working?" It's a frustrating question, because HELL if I know. I DO feel better, but I've been doing a LOT of work on myself. I feel that when they ask about the meds, that discounts all the other work I have been doing. People seem to think that meds are a magic happy pill or something. If they WERE a magic happy pill, then EVERYONE ON THE PLANET would be taking them, wouldn't they??? We wouldn't be here discussing all this if that were the case.
So, my answer to your question is "I sure as hell hope so..."

I've been taking it for over a year. I used to be on Prozac but because of my life-long Social Phobia, my doctor changed me to Zoloft because it is better at alleviating anxiety.
It has helped me quite a bit -------- and anything's better than nothing.
So if you are thinking of going on it, I would recommend it.
All the best.

It depends what you're taking it for. I can't say anything about it's helpfulness for depression, but I can definitely attest to its helpfulness for anxiety. It was a lifesaver! I went from a state of constant jitteriness asking everyone "I'm not going to have a heart attack, am I?" to going back to being completely normal.

I just started taking it a few days ago. My friend took it and she hated it. My councelor is mad my doctor gave it to me, because she wants me to work through my depression not mask it.
