I posted a couple of what I thought would be funny posts the other day with a Christian theme and was amazed to see how serious they were taken. It was supposed to be light and humorous and well, it wasn't received that way. Okay, so I will no longer make posts like that. I'm new to Yahoo! Answers and the religion category in particular so since then I did a good amount of reading of posts in this category and I'm wondering, why are so many people baiting the religious ones? It seems cruel. They believe what they are going to believe and NOTHING is going to change their minds. Not proof, not facts, certainly not insults or opinions. Almost seems like beating a dog that's tied up. What's the appeal in your opinion?

redfernkitty: I assume the comment about not appreciating my patronizing tone is based on the 'nothing is going to change their mind' line. Wasn't meant to be patronizing just reality based. If you are Christian - tell me (seriously) is there ANY argument I could give you that would make you stop being a Christian? See - not patronizing - just the truth.

Sage: Kind of a sport like fishing in a barrel... how can one lose? In which case... where is the challenge and hence the enjoyment?

People with radical views seem to have a need to impose them on others. Religion and belief in God is about love and peace. We surely need more of that.

Zealot baiting. Kind of like a sport.

It goes all ways - they do the same to the Athiests, Muslims, Pagans, Agnostics, Hindus and so on.

sometimes you will find someone wanting an honest answer on a certain religion and no matter what someone from a different viewpoint will chastize them for consorting with the devil or believing in fairy tales.

I'm fairly new here too but pretty experienced in life - thats just how it is.

I don't especially appreciate your patronizing tone...but yes, you are right in it seems people are very quick to get their feathers fuffled.

I would argue that the non-religious ones are the ones that are going to be believe what they are going to believe-proof, facts, insults and opinions are not going to change that. But what's wrong with a civil discussion? Seems to be impossible to have one on YahooAnswers and many similar forums.

WHY CAN'T WE ALL GET ALONG?!?!?!

lol

Whats your proof of an incredible Earth. Is it infinite matter organizing itself to devlope into uniquely designed complex life forms? Thats a good one. Tell me what non proof you have on Christianity, and belive me , most of what you think is non proof is perpetuated baloney.

I think that the reason people take it so seriously is because it is a strong thing to beleive... riligion is very important to many people and is sometimes moreso than family or your own life.

I think its fine to joke even abhout religion i just hate people who get pissed when you joke aobut their religion then they go and joke about sonmeone elses.

It's funny. I can't make you see or hear what I hear. I can't make you know what I know that I know. (That's for all you Christians. The agnostics and atheists don't understand, but I bet you do.) One thing we Christians can promise you, though. After it's all said and done, we will never say, "I told you so."

So you are characterizing christians as over-sensitive children who cannot defend themselves or their beliefs?

Sounds pretty accurate to me.
