I was born into a Christian home like millions of people out there. Ever wonder about those that are born into a Jewish home, or a muslim home, or a buddhist home....All are equally devoted to their religion and believe that THEIR religion is the correct religiong. It's a puzzling thought.

And He said unto them, "Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.
"He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.
"And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;
"They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover." Mark 16:15-18

I believe this applies to all religions because it does not speak specifically to any one religion now does it.

Actually it is pretty simple. One of the unifying concepts of religion is belief in a creator. After that starts the human element. All religions are based on faith. Faith means there is no certainty. It is acceptance. All religions state this basic premise, and then unhappily promptly forget it.

I cannot deny that if I was born in Iraq, I'd be a muslim. If I was born in India, I'd be a hindu, etc. Nor can you deny you would have a different religious faith depending on where you were born. It is not a puzzle, it is a fact. If you are born in the middle of India, and all your people are hindu's, then how can you be a Christian? It makes no sense and God is not stupid. Thus, another fact is that religion is the politicization of faith to create a human organization that simply points toward God. Faith in God is not the issue, having certainty in religion is the issue.

So the principle is, God the creator exists, believe in a religion, and then, please allow for religious freedom. We must allow for religious freedom because there is no certainty which is the right religion. Besides, the record of single state religions is pretty horrid. Religious competition is a good thing and might lead to the truth.

For me, I'm a Christian after years of struggle and a step of faith. But, there for the grace of God, I could have been something else. I understand that and accept that.

However let me add, today's dogmatic Christians are too often self-righteous and exclusionary. When you read the bible, you find that Christ was not self-righteous, and very inclusionary. To me, that is the puzzle. Why do Christians act like the Pharisees and Sanhedrin that Christ despised?

Maybe that is the answer to your question. Christians have doubt because they have no justification to be self-righteous and exclusionary. Ta da!

This question really resonates with me. I remember as I was transitioning out of fundamental Christianity I was being exhorted by my pastor to re-embrace the faith. I asked him isn't it possible that there is some Muslim out there has doubt, and his Imam, with equal zeal to your own, is trying to convince him Islam is the way and that he should not stray?

To understand reality we often must put ourselves in other peoples shoes. It is all to easy from our limited experiences to make hasty judgments and or conclusions about ultimate truth.

I believe the sea (life) to be a wonderful teacher. The longer we spend out on it, the more we are in touch with what simply is.

of course. there is evidence of evolution at the microbiological level, which means that there could possibly (but i doubt it) evidence out there, that proves the evolution theory, or at least part of it.

that is why i have become and amateur scientitst of the past decade. i want to tackle the issues that put my faith into question, from a logical standpoint, and be able to prove "my side" of the argument.

without education, you get the dimwitted who only say "God did it" or "there is no God" as their only mantra. this leads to division within our own society that should be unaceptable.

i am not saying that the muslim or jewish faith are incorrect either. they also believe that Christ will deliver them at the end of times. it is only the Christian faith that believes that Jesus was the Christ and that he made an earlier stop.

You always hear about Muslims, Jews, athiests, etc, converting to Christianity and they always say they thought they knew the way and then God showed them the truth. You never hear about a Christian leaving Christianity for, say, Buddism and saying they thought they knew the way, but now see the truth. If someone who you thought was a Christian has deserted it, they probably weren't one to begin with.

Sure. It's only human to doubt yourself sometimes, because we are aware that our humanity means we make mistakes. The important thing is to never stop questioning - question until you find answers, and believe in the answers you find.

Christians are allowed to doubt!

In some places to change ones faith, or even doubt publicly, could be, or is, DEATH!
