I have a 2 year old female and a 4 month old male and they use only one litter box perfectly. when I brought my kitten home my 2 year old didn't stop using the litter box for any reason. now they both use it and have absolutly no problems whatsoever. do you think it's just my cats personality? do ya'll think I should buy one more litter box just in case, I don't see the point of it though. my cats are fine. two cats use one litter box in my house. do you think that this is ok, they don't seem to care. just curious. tell me what you think.

my 2 year old female shared with her brother before he passed away. (before I got my 4 month old) she didn't mind at all.

I have had two cats forever and they only use one litterbox ~ I would rather have one litterbox to clean than two to clean.
Neither of my cats seem to mind sharing ~ and my one cat is 9 and my other cat is 5 months. Before we got the kitten my 9 year old cat shared with an 8 year old cat [that recently passed away].
So I personally don' t think you need to make extra work for yourself if both cats are okay using the same litterbox.

Outdoor cats enjoy using the soft soil in planters and flower gardens as litterboxes.
Kittens can be litter box trained at the age of 2-3 weeks old. All you need to do is take something little so the kitten can get in (a little pie pan works great), and fill it with litter. Then when the kitten starts to "go", put the kitten in the litter box so it learns to "go" in there. Another approach that works is to place the kitten into the box and rub its front paws into the litter, so it learns to dig there. Most kittens only take a matter of days to learn; sometimes it takes longer, but it seems that the younger the kitten is, the easier it is for it to learn.
If a cat suddenly stops using its litterbox, a trip to the vet is in order, because this may be caused by a medical problem--if the cat finds it painful to relieve itself, it may associate the pain with the litterbox. More than one cat owner has refrained from taking a cat to the vet's office because of a "this cat is perfectly healthy" mentality. An animal doesn't have to look sick to be sick. It can also be a behavioural problem; for example, the cat may be resentful over the introduction of a new kitten to the household. The reasons why cats stop using the litterbox for eliminations are large and varied, with too many to go into here. Your veterinarian may have some good suggestions, or you may need to contact a behaviorist.

It depends on several factors. If the cats don't seem to care, it should be fine.
I'll give you an example--I have 3 cats, but they use one box. However, I live in a small, one-floor apartment and there is no place to put a 2nd litterbox. Also, I scoop the box at least 5-6 times a day. They are all in good health and they get along well.
So, whatever seems best in your situation is okay.

I totally agree with you, my mom has had 2 cats for a long time and they've always shared the same litter box. I think it's OK as long as you keep it clean and they don't seem to have a problem with sharing it, that and she uses that multi-cat litter...Maybe over 2 cats is when it gets tricky?

my mom has a no kill shelter and has too many cats to count. If you have a few cats u need more than 1 box ....but just 2 cats i think you are safe. Plus sometimes if there are 2 females or 2 males but it depends on your cats.

Nahh you're fine. If you keep it clean , there shouldnt be a problem. I have two boxes but have one adult female and 3 three months old kittens. I clean it everday and it never stinks up the house. :) I think some people suggest more boxes because most people dont clean it everyday. If you keep on top of it, I dont see a problem. gl!

because if the cats don't like to share it is hard to have one. but my two cats will share the one box you just have to change the box more often.

The main reason is to avoid cats peeing where theyre not supposed too. And also to keep it more clean without having to scoop so often

I don't know. I gues they say they like it private and clean, but my cats share and they don't have a problem. I honestly don't think you need seperate ones unless you have A LOT of cats.
