Im not completely syure. I have actually talked to preists on this subject. A lot of christians read the bible and take it all direct and beleive every single thing. Most preists i talk to say 'You need to relize its just a book. Its not the exact story you need to worry about its the moral behind the story.' I always say dude the bible was not written by god. It was written by men. And what are men famouse for doing? lieing cheating and screwing it up. ^^

Christianity is a walk of faith. There is much proof of the existence of God and Biblical accuracy. Herschel Shanks agenda is to neither prove nor disprove the Bible, but he researches what it says from an archaeological standpoint., If the Bible says that there as a city at a place then he and his crew go look for it, and typically find it exactly where the Bible said it was.
Example: the Jewish king, David was not found in secular history until a stella was discovered that boasted of a war victory over "the House of David" I believe in the early 1990''s. That and many more evidences explored by Mr. Shanks have been found adding credence to Biblical accuracy.
Bible Review and Bible Archeology Review are his magazines which can be subscribed to by anyone. Unsure but maybe also available on-line as well. I prefer the mag so I am able to take it with me on the road.
Also Dr. Collins who mapped the human genome was an atheist, but after much diligence and his own research came to the conclusion that there is a God and He set things in motion. There was a great article on Dr. Collins in our local newspaper this past week and I'm sure he could also be found using Google if you wanted to read on his position.
Many people have a hard time believing in God, and as to why He allows the world to go the way it does. Consider: if God did everything for us, how would we learn? Good steel becomes better steel after it has been put to the fire, tempering it and burning off impurities.
We humans are also a lot like that. God promised that we would receive the strength to overcome trials and troubles, but He also knows that we need such to improve ourselves. Our teaching methods in school are no different. We have a learning period, then the testing. The test indicates how well we learned or need of further study to improve our abilities.
Keep your mind open and seek Him diligently as God has promised that those who seek Him in spirit and in truth will find Him and be rewarded.

I will work backward on your question. What is the Bible talking about, chop suey? How do I know it is God's word you ask? Well let's see, archiologists uses it to find places that are only in the Bible. There is unexplained phenomin that people, doctors, scientists etc does not understand after years of study. People have been healed in the name of God that should have died. This is described in the Bible. The Bible is a historical account of all the early people. The Bible describes Jesus and gives His words and works. Jesus through historical fact has been established. By the way, did you know that Bible simply means book? It is the best physcology book in the world if you follow it. It will teach you how to live with your fellowman. Show me another book that can do that. This is the only complete set of facts that has transcended through the times. Just as it says, My word shall always stand. People have tried to destroy it throughout the ages but it still stands today. You will find that to understand the Bible you must see it through eyes of faith in the Lord not man's eyes. It will just be confusing. Again, from the Bible, My word will confuse the wise. People ask for proof about the Bible. They are so closed minded that they refuse to even crack it open, yet they are willing to believe about Napoleon, Cleopatra etc. Why? Was they there, what proof did they have that they existed? If I was to say that in the late 50's and early 60's kids started breaking away from the traditional beliefs and you was born in the 70's how would you know I was telling you the truth, was you there? If I said President John F Kennedy was shot and you was not alive at that time can you give me legitamate proof from your lifetime or would you have to believe a book? People are so critical of one book but not of others. What are they afraid of? What pushes them to continually discriminate against one book when there are plenty others? If I said there was a time in American history that if you even breathed the word Communist in this country you would be imprisoned for it, would you doubt me and say I was nuts or would you do research? So as with all other books don't say it is all bunk unless you can disprove it without a single doubt. Unless you can give unequivical proof then don't say God does not exist. Without unequivical proof don't try to shatter someone's faith in the Lord. No one has this proof. You just choose to follow what your heart says to follow.

People believe what they are taught in school (including you) and what our history books tell us, although they distort history.
You believe the news, the things your Teachers, Parents and role models tell you. You believe the words to your favorite music.
People (all people) are no more intelligent than computers, they believe based on the information they receive, on ANY subject. If information is left out, altered or just not given, they cannot find a different answer. People 'believe' the Bible is the history of God's teachings, because there is no book, written in the same time period (not later such as now) saying it is not.
We can ONLY come to conclusions based upon data entered into our brains, and our interpretation of that data. Whereas your brain interprets that data one way, someone else's brain interprets it another way.
The only way to change that so that we all think the same is to implant computer chips into our brains at birth, so we can be controlled by that chip. I wouldn't like that, would you?

The Bible is God's Word to us.
It was written by human authors, under the supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit.
Above all you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophet's own interpretation. For prophecy never had its origin in the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit. 2 Peter 1:20-21. (New International Version)
Breakdown of the Bible
36 human authors inspired entirely by God over 1600 years.
66 separate books
39 Old Testament
Genesis- The creation of the world, sin, flood and birth of Israel
Exodus to Esther- History of the nation of Israel
Job to Proverbs- the books of poetry and wisdom
Isaiah to Malachi- Prophecy or foretelling of the future events to come.
27 New Testament
Matthew to John - Four Gospels representing the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ now with all authority in Heaven and earth.
Acts- Birth of the Church (The Bride of Christ)
Romans to Jude - Letters to the Churches
Revelations - The ultimate future plans for: The Church, Heaven, Hell, a New Heaven and a New Earth.

Not just a book, but a book written by men who were just past the "hunter/gatherer" stage of evolution...All crap! There are some good moral principles. But the story line is just that, a story...
And it is the so called "Inspired Word Of God".God didnt write anything.Isnt that strange for an entity that can conjur universes?God cant write it,but gets the flunkies to do it.Ha!Ha!
If GOD wants people to know, then why isnt there a collective meeting where it says to us personally; "This is what I ask of you, and this is how I want it to be."?
And why did GOD do a schizophrenic change from the Old Testament and being a vengeful and hard core entity to being this loving and forgiving one in the New Testament?I guess having kids does that to you.
It is CRAP!That's why.It is perpetuated through primal fear and folklore.

That is a very good question thank you for asking.
It is a book and those who use just a book to be the final authority commit a form of Idolatry because they trust more in the book than in God to give them answers.
Of course how can you blame them when they are taught to pray even though the heavens are sealed and no more revelation or prophets are to be had. In other words they believe God no longer speaks. The Muslim and Jewish religions teach and believe the same thing.
In order for anything to be of any authority, assuming you believe in God and that you believe God does speak to us through the Holy Ghost/the Spirit, we personally need to know if it is true or not.
Look up in The New Testament in James 1:5(5 If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.
6 But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed.)
(New Testament | James 1:5 - 6)
and you will be able to know for yourself.
Also look up John 14:26(But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.)(New Testament | John 14:26)
And Galatians 5:22-23( But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,
23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.)
(New Testament | Galatians 5:22 - 23)
This is what you will feel when the Holy Ghost confirms to you if something is true.
Try it. It really works. And it only works if you are sincere about following through with the answers you get.
If you have questions write to me.

Me, personally I go with the logics & use common sense. Honestly I believe that some of the Bible is true & some of it is false. After all it was written by man & history has proven that religion was once recognized as a powerful way of governing society. So therefore I don't think there were any limits as to what would be scripted in the Bible as long as it was in there to help gain or maintain power over the people. -ghostwriter_b

First of all you seem to have a problem with the fact that it is a book. You do not supposed to accept it blindly. You supposed to test the things in it and apply it to your life. At the heart of the Bible is rather or not it is Gods word for guidance and education of men. What a remarkable book it is you have to admit - it address every single element of human nature, gives advice on all elements of life from behavior to diet to marriage to working to how to treat your neighbors, written by 50 different authors with different writing styles yet manages to maintain a beautiful harmony and consistancy, provides an explaination to the natural world which science can only play the role of catch up to, and gives predictions to future events to ensure believes that God is in fact in control of the events of this world. At the same time the bible presents in intricate and complex religious system which yet can be understood by a child and stump the so called wise men of the world. So you say the bible is just a book , huh?

the bible that most people quote as the word of "god" is the king james' version, a laughable version at that. this particular version has been edited and rewritten. if you compare this version to jewish books and interpretations and ofcourse the talmud you will find there are many chapters missing or changed in meaning. before one accepts every word in a book as the word of god, one should research the creation of the book they are reading. i find it suspect that this is not taught in bible school. there are some excellent ideas in the blbe (the ten commandments seem universal truths of how to live your life) and some very strange gaps (this missing years of jesus, 13 to 33, 20 years) and some very odd ideas (the subjugation of women). i think people automatically believe what the bible says because they are scared not to. christianity does a great job of scaring it's believers with fire and brimstone into following without question.

What other books contain the pathway to eternity? The Bible is our spiritual guide to the next life.I agree with another writer on this, that it is Divine instruction.God knew we could get his message to us twisted from here-say so he inspired men to translate the dead sea scrolls. This is our history. And history is based on facts. The Holy Bible is Facts about what really happened and what is really going to happen. It's the only book we know that a power greater than ourselves created. And stated that no one add or take away from.We all get caught up in the "what ifs" but here there is no what ifs. It's real and has stood the test of man and time, believe it.The Word of God will be the only thing that makes any difference from now and throughout eternity.
