True. This has been going on since at least T. Roosevelt's administration. I think they will be given amnesty. People tend to forget about the past and only think about today. Bush has been speaking about the five point reform program since before 2001. I didn't hear as many complaints until just recently. If it was such a pressing issue for them, why didn't they say something sooner?

That was another time and things were not as they are now.
At that time it was made clear it was a one time only thang.
It's really a fascinating question/issue as it is so seminal to whether US America is really a great power and Democracy.
If Amnesty is given, the Fed. Gov. will as good as admit they are incompetent and ineffectual. The lid will blow off as they are that way in fact and Americans have had it both with the illegal issue as well as other issues.
They can't afford to give amnesty and will do all they can to waffle their ways out of this onerous situation. Illegals will slowly be picked up/off as they try to live in the US. By police and other agencies as they break the laws of the US. Everything from traffic violations, to Felony criminal acts. This is going on right now, as we write about it. It is gearing up and being addressed to some degree. It needs to be an even greater effprt and I for one, hope it will be.
In answer to your question: In 1986 Amnesty was given as a one time thang. It can't happen twice without a huge backlash. Particularly since so much damage has been done by this new surge of illegals, a disproportionate number being seriously criminal. Outside of denegrating the infra structure of the USA, we don't currently have enough jails to put away the illegal criminals that apparently are in the 30-40% range out of all illegal immigrants (mostly from Mexico).

Yes they were, but the result of that amnesty coupled with lack of enforcement is exactly what so politicizes this issue this time.
I don't actually know what will happen on this subject, and so long as total numbers permit our schools and services to recover, am not against legalization, per se. I am against the
Senate Bill however, and the various ways it tries to 'slip things over' on us makes me certain to watch upcoming bills like a hawk. For whatever good that does.
This is a democracy, but on complicated issues where education on the topic is required, the ultimate resolution isn't always the best resolution.
Personally, I am beginning to fear that we may get a guest worker program and inadequate border security with poorly funded enforcement, and no amnesty. As far as I am concerned that means most of those here won't leave (we'll back down on deporting the 'good sort' in a very short time) and we'll be stuck with the big business slave labor immigration which would destroy our services. It would be hard to recreate a coalition on this topic to dismantle that program once it were created and in place.
There are worse things than amnesty for screened illegals, in my opinion.

Pancha o.k. everyone get's amnesty then what ? What is going to happen when the next wave of people come in ?? Then it becomes a matter of whats more important people in Mexico needing amnesty or people in Iraq needing amnesty it just goes round and round and amnesty does not work refer you to 1986. Mexico has to do it's part and show it is sincere in keeping people there. America has done more for Mexico then any other nation on earth has. Give amnesty now it only encourages more people to to come. Why is your friend Border speaking for you you ? If you have anything to say post it. We may not aways agree but I don't have others speaking for me.

I hope and pray that my government will comply with the laws and evict every single illegal. Immigrants are important to this nation but we don't want people who think it's OK to break the law, AKA illegals. If someone is illegal that means they have already started their lives here breaking the law so what is to stop them from breaking more? Since most of the illegals are Mexican there are two simple solutions. One invade Mexico and turn them into a couple of states. Two copy the Mexican immigration laws and practices. Either one of these will end the illegal invasion of this nation.

There have been seven amnesties since 1986. That is an outrage to Americans for our goverment to demand of us to follow the law and we demand the same from them.
We shall not stand it happening again. The assault on America stops now and this time they do all get deported. If our government would have followed the law, we wouldn't be in this position.

YA pancha they sure were! You finally said something smart, well sort of, lol. YEP, boy-howdy....America has given criminals free passes into our country many times, declaring this action Amnesty. Ya they broke our law and we rewarded them. NOPE, NADA, it won't happen again! The reason that they won't get amnesty again is because of all you supporters, you guys are the ones who are really going to do these "poor helpless people" in. Our government won't give them amnesty if they can continue to get away with letting them remain illegal and work for cheap. And that's what you criminal supporters want isn't it? You want them to stay because they work for slave wages and keep the price of your oranges down, right? Well hell there won't be any slave wages or cheap oranges if they're given amnesty. You make me laugh! And thanks for inadvertently supporting my cause.

yeah the promise to the American people was the the one time, we give amnesty, then close the borders, and jail employers who hire anyone not legal.
Well our good people in DC did the amnesty, then said screw the rest of it.
Since we did that, no one in the world respects our borders. They hate us, but all want to be here.
They are doing the same thing again in DC.

You do know what illegal immigration means? It means entering a country without the permission of the authorities. I do not know how people think that they can break the law of a particular country and then ask for "rights". I find it very difficult to understand!

that was a one-time deal, and it's not gonna happen again. I fully would like to see a top-to-bottom audit of the Border Patrol, and whoever's in charge of it before Congress giving testimony as to why they can't seem to do their job...
