I'm protestant Christian and marrying a Vietnamese girl in Hanoi who is Buddhist. There is absolutely no problem with the differences of our religion. Let's go further. My best friend for over 20 years is a Shi Hite Muslim Iranian, and there is no problems between us either. In fact, he's going to be my best man.

If your friend is in America, then she will need to decide what is more important. Is she is marrying the person or a religion? If she can't get past the religion, then she never really loved the man.

It is hard, but not impossible.
If they are serious about getting married, all the 'rules' need to be laid out before they get married.
What religous holidays they observe, what church will they attend (either together or separately), what religion their children follow, etc.
It takes work, but people are doing it all over the world.

it's near impossible but not completely. It needs to be dicussed between the couple before they get engaged because it can really screw things up if they are devoted to their religions.

for me and my husband it's just not an issue. he's catholic, i'm athiest. we have 2 kids, we don't push religion on them. say we go to a book store and the kids want a book of prayers, we buy it and read it to them when they want. if they don't want it, we don't buy it. we don't preach to them, we let them figure it out and decide on their own. we want them to choose for themselves, not force them to believe something we want them to. that's how we do it and it works out fine.
