anorexic is a mental condition, kind of like warped perceptions.
starvation diets are something you do.
The problem with extreme type of dieting, is that it's not maintainable. You have to stop, since it's unhealthy, and once you stop you loose its desired results, or it's actually harder to diet correctly the next time. ... ouch !!

If you are having these kind of thoughts, please talk to a counselor or your parents. When you have anorexia, your body thinks something is wrong and goes into a starvation mode. This means that anything you eat, it will try to use. Your metabolism will be all screwed up. You might lose weight, but you will also lose muscle.
The problem is, as most people in this Q/A thread have said, anorexia is a psychiatric disorder, not just a weight loss program. It is more a way of trying to control something in our lives. I am speaking from experience... I developed anorexia because I felt like I had no control in my life... but I could control what I ate and what I didn't. I didn't sit down and decide this... it just happened. Once the anorexia starts, it is very very hard to control. You feel like you are in control because you are strong and don't need to eat like everyone else (they are sooooo weak). Then you start to look at them like it is soooo gross to eat (how can they eat like that??). Then there are the games you will have to play around other people... pushing your food around your plate, pretending to eat... I would eat a sandwich/hamburger with a fork... it's called a food ritual... and most anorexics/bulimics have them. After a while, you become obsessed with all kinds of foods.... I used to collect recipes.... but just to look at them... never to eat any of the foods. Obsessing about calories... how many calories are in the lifesaver I just ate? Did that person get me a regular pop instead of a diet one???
Believe me... it's a terrible downward spiral. I ended up in the hospital for 4 1/2 months... the hospital program has to try to get you to start eating again and to work on all the issues that are there because of the eating disorder and also all of the issues that caused the disorder. In the attempt to control, you basically lose control. Your health is in danger with this disorder... when I went into the hospital my blood pressure was 70/40 and my potassium was 2.7 (I could have had heart problems with a potassium that low).
As to your last question... how long does it take to see results.... if you are anorexic, you never see results, you will have body image distortion. What this means is you will look in the mirror and still see fat even at 90 lbs (if I could just lose 5 more pounds, maybe I will look better). So... you will never see the results you want if you are truly anorexic... and you will live in fear of eating anything because if you do, you will feel like you are weak and disgusting, and a horrible person for having to eat.
Please get help from someone before this happens to you.

Anorexia is not a diet method that works or doesn't work.
It is a psychiatric disorder.
Aside from being deadly, anorexia has some nasty side effects, like growing hair all over your body, stopping menstruation, and looking like a skeleton.
I has an anorexic friend. Her parents had to put her in a mental hospital for a year.
Please understand that this is not the way to lose weight.

From what I've heard, with anorexia, any actual gain or even perceived gain of weight will lead to intense fear of becoming fat to the person.
Athough it works in staying thin, this is a serious condition and needs some form of medical assistance. Do you know that in some very severe cases, it leads to loss of menstruation, also hypotension, hypothermia, and gastrointestinal problems.
If you're very young and have started on it, talk to your mom or your teacher. Someone will help you.

Anerexia Nervosa is a psychological condition and if you were afflicted by it you would not perceive its effectiveness.I think you're talking about Bulemia which like anorexia is extremely dangerous.Just show some self restaint and eat a balanced diet.Unless you have a serious medical condition this will work. You're headed to a hospital with this kind of thinking.

Sure, if you're a suicide! I recommend you read all the answers carefully--they're all speaking good sense. Otherwise, try bulimia, it's equally sensible, and doesn't require you to stop eating--just to stop nourishing yourself.
If you are really looking to lose weight, do it sensibly. Stick to small meals, even if you have to eat a lot of them.
Best route:
2-4 ounce portions of lean meats cooked almost any way but fried, or an egg or two--boiled, poached, baked or fried in a minimun of oil.
At least two equal portions of vegetables at each meal--fresh is best, but steamed is also good, so long as you leave off heavy or sweetened sauces.
A slice of multi-grain bread or a roll, lightly buttered or with sugar-free jam or jelly, or a tablespoon of peanut butter--pick a brand with 3 or fewer added sugars per tbl. Shredded wheat cereal is also good, or any variety with fewer than 5 added sugars per serving.
Half a cup of yogurt or cottage cheese at least 3 times a day, or an 8 ounce glass of milk--the less fat content the better.
Fresh fruit--the more colorful the better--or canned fruit with as few added sugars as you can manage.
NO sodas or drinks sweetened with sugar--try Splenda for all your sweetening needs. Tastes great and no calories.
Lots of water--you need the fluid, especially when losing weight, to remove the lost cells and break-down products and keep your kidneys healthy.
And if you really want to see results--exercise! Walking or swimming is good, but a little weight-training will also help, as well as adding variety. Building muscle not only gives you an improved silhouette and stamina, it aids in weight loss as muscle burns more calories than fat. It also looks better.
Above all remember--the more your body feels it's starving, the less it will use! And when you go back to your regular diet, you'll gain back all you lost and more.
If you really want to lose weight and keep it off, your best course is to change the way you eat--permanently.

Sure, it works if you want to look like a skeleton with skin and lack important nutrients your body needs. Never have any energy, be sick all the time because your immune system is failing, risk organ damage and lose your hair.
Sounds like a wonderful thing to me!
It's a *disease.* It can kill you. It's killed many people.
Don't do it just because some famous people did it. There are better, safer ways to lose weight.

It is a psychological disorder. It is mostly NOT your fault, if you need to lose weight. The way you have been taught to eat is responsible for making obesity the number one health problem in the world (according to Atlantic Monthly magazine) replacing hunger and infectious disease. You need to re-learn how to eat so you can become thin. Not a diet, but diet lifestyle.
Find out about fastest way to lose weight, gradual ways to lose weight, most effective exercise and anti-water. Lose bodyfat and retained water which also makes you a lot fatter (bloated). Plus click on "Pure Water" to make sure the water you drink doesn't hurt you. Most important-- make sure to read the last "fat loss tip", first before anything else, to see the number one food that causes Americans to be fat.

Sure...it works to kill you! I had a friend with it. At 98 pounds, they had to put her in the hospital on total bed rest. That meant they had to catheterize her because it was too much excercise just to get up to go the bathroom. There was intense counseling, both individual and for the family. She looked like one of those people in the films about the concentration camps in WWII. It was beautiful; it was ugly. See, once you start this kind of thing, you may not be able to stop before it kills you.
