I have the same computer and OS and it works fine for me. I put the SD card into the slot and a few moments later it appears in my Windows Explorer beneath the My Computer icon.

What is happening for you?

To investigate this further you will need to determine the status of the device in the Device Manager. The DM application can be run by entering this path for a shortcut, or typing it at the run prompt (Start Menu -> Run):
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\devmgmt.msc

On my computer the device manager shows "Secure Digital host controllers" and the properties show that it is working. How about on your computer?

1. Did it ever work?
2. What changed since it last worked?

Those are the first two questions you need to answer.
With the limited information I have, I would think that you need to install a driver for the sd reader.

I hope it's just a driver thing try re -running or updating the drivers for it if this don't work It's probably the motherboard. take it to a shop. Check your warranty too.
