My girlfriend needs to get some fillings in her teeth but she's got braces on and she's worried about how they'll do it.

Do they have to take the braces off before she can get the fillings? Or can they just do it with the braces on? She needs to get some fillings in between her teeth and she needs to get a filling in one of her back teeth and it's got one of those metal bands around it - how do they do that particular filling?

I had a filling done once when I had my braces on, it was just a small one, and it was in the top of my tooth so they just drilled and filled it like normal. I don't know about your girlfriend, I guess it depends how big the fillings are and where they are on the teeth. But if the dentist said she needs fillings, then she really should get them before the cavities get worse.

The dentist will have a look and try to work around the braces. Sometimes just the arch wire will need to be removed which is not a big deal. I've done fillings on several patients with braces and only 1 needed to have the arch wire removed. Good luck. Hope the dentist or orthodontist gives some further instructions on how to avoid getting anymore cavities and having this problem arise again.

I got a filling in one of my molars with a metal band around it and it wasn't that bad! They tried to put another band thing around it with the balloon-ish material stuff so that they don't get the filling and water in my mouth, but it wouldn't fit. So they just did the filling without the balloon thing and it was fine! Uncomfortable but fine! Tell her not to worry!

It depends on where the filling needs to go long story made short they may remove the bands to access the area. Having the bands taken off doesn't hurt. Tell her she will be fine people have been doing it for years. Tell her to keep up flossing and brushing.

wouldn't it be better to just go see the dentist? but i think it would be okay to get the filling done cuz the metal bracket it just surrounding the tooth, the dentist only works on the surface of the tooth not the surroudings..

Maybe she should ask the dentist. I'm sure they have many ways of doing it and she should not worry about it.
