Hello sweet little sister Missy.. :)
This says it all.. :)
Matthew 5
The Beginning of the Sermon on the Mount
1 And seeing the multitudes, he went up into a mountain: and when he was set, his disciples came unto him:
2 and he opened his mouth, and taught them, saying,
The Beatitudes
3 ¶ Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
4 ¶ Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.
5 ¶ Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.
6 ¶ Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.
7 ¶ Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.
8 ¶ Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.
9 ¶ Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.
10 ¶ Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness' sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
11 ¶ Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake.
12 Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.
The Salt of the Earth
13 ¶ Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savor, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.
The Light of the World
14 ¶ Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hid.
15 Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.
16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.
Jesus' Attitude toward the Law
17 ¶ Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.
18 For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.
19 Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.
20 For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven.
Jesus' Attitude toward Anger
21 ¶ Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not kill; and whosoever shall kill shall be in danger of the judgment:
22 but I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment: and whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the council: but whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of hell fire.
23 Therefore if thou bring thy gift to the altar, and there rememberest that thy brother hath aught against thee;
24 leave there thy gift before the altar, and go thy way; first be reconciled to thy brother, and then come and offer thy gift.
25 Agree with thine adversary quickly, while thou art in the way with him; lest at any time the adversary deliver thee to the judge, and the judge deliver thee to the officer, and thou be cast into prison.
26 Verily I say unto thee, Thou shalt by no means come out thence, till thou hast paid the uttermost farthing.
Jesus' Attitude toward Oaths
33 ¶ Again, ye have heard that it hath been said by them of old time, Thou shalt not forswear thyself, but shalt perform unto the Lord thine oaths:
34 but I say unto you, Swear not at all; neither by heaven; for it is God's throne:
35 nor by the earth; for it is his footstool: neither by Jerusalem; for it is the city of the great King.
36 Neither shalt thou swear by thy head, because thou canst not make one hair white or black.
37 But let your communication be, Yea, yea; Nay, nay: for whatsoever is more than these cometh of evil.
Love for Enemies
38 ¶ Ye have heard that it hath been said, An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth:
39 but I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also.
40 And if any man will sue thee at the law, and take away thy coat, let him have thy cloak also.
41 And whosoever shall compel thee to go a mile, go with him twain.
42 Give to him that asketh thee, and from him that would borrow of thee turn not thou away.
43 ¶ Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbor, and hate thine enemy.
44 But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;
45 that ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.
46 For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye? do not even the publicans the same?
47 And if ye salute your brethren only, what do ye more than others? do not even the publicans so?
48 Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.

I've been reading the book "My Utmost for His Highest" , which is a very famous daily devotional type of book, and it basically says that the more of a "doormat" you are during your life on earth, the more exalted you will be in heaven.
The Christian duty is to pour out your heart and soul for others and for God. Jesus gave everything to us, so we must give a lot back.
However, never let evil walk all over you. Do not help someone sin, even if it is a close friend or someone you feel pity on. A child should never help a close friend cheat on a test, even if the friend could not study due to an illness. It is not our responsibility to help others sin, even when it is justifiable.
Let others walk all over you only if it will glorify God. It may feel bad to be a doormat now, but just imagine how great it will be in God's Kingdom!!!
God bless!

If you can react righteously, then react, but if pride and anger want to take over, its best to keep quiet. If people want to fuss and not listen, i wouldnt even hang around to hear it. If you sit back and dont build relationships with those around you and they know you are a christian, you will seem intimidated, unprotected, and a very good target. Stick up for yourseld sternly and of course God and people will start to respect you more. Most importantly pray that the Lord will teach you how to deal with this and a good book of the bible to read is proverbs about this.

Absolutely there is. You don't have to be a doormat to be a Christian. I suppose the ideal Christian would turn the other cheek and build their treasure in heaven and let the other's actions reflect on them ~ but none of us are ideal only Jesus and I can't fathom that Jesus would hold not letting people take advantage against us. Just use your best judgement that is all you can do and it is the right thing to do.

This is something that as a Christian Pastor I deal with on a regular basis.
I am more than willing to help someone whether the problem be financial or simply cutting the grass but I am not going to cut their grass every week.
Another thing is you condition people as to how they treat you.
If you are known as an easy mark they will always hit on you for help.
Usually the best help you can give someone is to show them how to stand on their own two feet and be self sufficient.

As a Christian, I believe that it is a mindset. Jesus has told us to treat others as you would have others treat you. He also says that it is better to obey than to sacrifice.
However, Christians are not doormats. If someone mistreats you, give them another chance and then if they continue, forgive them and stay away from them. You don't have to get even. Romans 12:17 says, "Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everybody. If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone. Do not take revenge, my friends, but leave room for God's wrath, for it is written:"It is mine to avenge; I will repay, " says the Lord.

Sometimes there is a fine line. It depends on what you are calling being nice. Just smiling is being nice and you hardly ever get ran over for smiling. If lending someone money is being nice than there comes a point when you have to say is lending that person money really helping them progress or is it holding them back from progressing. If they are not learning hoe to budget because you keep loaning them money, or if they never get a job because you keep loaning them money than your "being nice" is actually hurting them. You have to say I really like you but there some things that you need to do on your own.
Another example is a mother bird. She is nice to her chicks but there comes a time she has to kick them out of the nest. It is for their own godd and progress.

My dad's a minister and I've asked him about this before. He says that Jesus wants you to be nice to people and take some things in stride, but that doesn't mean you have to be a doormat. If you're in a position where you constantly get your feelings hurt or get taken advantage of, you should let someone know about it, but if someone whistles at you from a car when you're walking down the sidewalk, you don't have to flip them off.

And by the same token, Christians should stop running over non-christians. Just yesterday, my wife was ambushed and ridiculed by a bunch of narrow minded, Bible thumping zealots at a friend's house because she happened to disagree with their beliefs.

Doing good deeds for others is never wrong. You have to take the long view that you're laying up your rewards in heaven, and not just seeking the rewards of man. Sure there will always be "Users" who will take advantage of your kindness, and even abuse it. It would seem to me that it shouldn't take very long to figure out who these people are by their constant abuse, and then you can make a decision weather or not to continue to associate with them. Remember forgiveness needs to be universal on our part. God reserves judgement and punishment for himself.
