It was Noah's wife's fault. She left the test tubes with the freeze-dried dino DNA behind. And she mixed up a few of the other tubes, as well. (God forgave her, cuz He could understand, she was under alot of stress and in a huge hurry, and of course, Noah, being male, was "supervising" and leaving all the details to her.)
One result was the duck billed platypus...but God figured it would confuse the hell out of everyone, so He let it stay...sort of a Divine Practical Joke....
Cain and Abel were not Adam and Eve's only kids, but it wouldn't matter if they had been, since an alien ship had crashed just before Cain killed Abel, and there were only a few survivors. Luckily, one of the women was genetically compatible with Cain, and...well, the rest is obvious.

From a catholic perspective, I am not required to take a narrow minded literalist view many thing in the bible...
For instance the cathlic bible says of Cain in chapter 4:
[17-22] In Genesis 4:12-16 Cain was presented as the archetype of nomadic peoples. The sacred author in this section follows another ancient tradition that makes Cain the prototype of sedentary peoples with higher material culture.
Science defends religion in its scale, wonder, and questions. God gave us these things, because we like them.

Before the flood, dinosaurs delivered babies. That's where all the other humans came from. When they were on the boat, Noah and his family got hungry and ate the dinosaurs, so then they had to teach storks how to deliver babies instead.
...and they all lived happily ever after.

Well, one only can state that the bible isn't 100% complete and conclusive - to it only can be used as an analogy.
I don't believe in these stories anyway...
