I tend to get very upset. Is that a sin? What level of prayer must I reach before I can accept the way people are and truly forgive them and see past their mean actions towards myself and my family? The good Lord said "turn the other cheek", but it's so hard to do (lol)!! Any advice from experienced Christians? I have only recently become one, and I am trying hard to change my life and clean up all the triggers that I know tend to set me off, stop hanging around certain folks, places, etc. Any advice for a young Christian?

Your feelings are your feelings. You can't change them because they are part of your human nature. What Jesus wants us to do is act out of love rather than out of our feelings. When someone hurts you, of course you are upset. Then you have a choice. You can let the upset feeling turn into anger, hatred and revenge, or you can forgive the wrong and let the feeling go.

Sometimes the hurt is too deep to just forget or ignore. Then you have to pray for healing for yourself, but you can still choose not to act against the one who hurt you. You can choose to be kind and act out forgiveness even if you don't feel it. Eventually you will feel it.

God is Love. Whenever we do things that are not loving, even for a religious reason, we are moving away from God.

I hope it gets better for you.

I don't think getting upset or hurt is a sin. The sin would be in calling the person names as you think about them. Even Jesus was angry. The sin would be in our thoughts and actiions.
I'm an older Christian and this question could have been written by me. I still haven't figured out how to deal with people who are mean spirited. Only God can change their heart. Pray for them. Keep yourself pure. I spend as little time as I can with a certain family member.

it's a really hard thing to do after fifteen years as a christian still struggle with the same thing some times. It's real easy when someone wrongs us to react the way of the world what am learning to do is immediately pray and let them go and let God handle the situation. He can do so much more than I can. smile

When you are persecuted and people say all manner of evil against you falsely for the sake of Christ, rejoice and be exceedingly glad for great is your reward in Heaven for so did they persecute the prophets who were before you. Bless those who curse you and pray for those who despitefully use you. Do not rebuke a mocker or he will hate you, rebuke a wise man and he will grow wiser still. Do not give what is holy to the dogs or cast your pearls of divine wisdom before pigs lest they trample them in the mud and turn again and rend you with their mouth. Be angry and do not sin. Do not let the sun go down on your anger and give the devil a foothold in your life.

Read the following

Psalm 145:8 The LORD is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and rich in love.

Ecclesiastes 5:2 Do not be quick with your mouth, do not be hasty in your heart to utter anything before God. God is in heaven and you are on earth, so let your words be few.

I hope I have answered your question!

I'm not a Christian, but I want to help you anyway. Instead of being angry at them, think of why they are cruel to you. Is it because they have nothing better to do? Is it because they feel crappy about themselves and need to project their negative emotions onto someone? If that is the case, don't hate them, but pity them, for their situation is very sad and pathetic. Poor things, they were cursed with ignorance. Blessed be.

I know it's hard to "turn the other cheek, but you have to. I know I always have problems especially my brother, and it's always hard to turn the other cheek. You just habe to pray to the Lord to have the spirit to turn the other cheek.

Supposed to forgive and pray for them. Not easy to do. Takes lots of practice.

I would ignore them. Then again I've never experienced that problem because people are very accepting here.
