Not in it's entirety. Businesses and homes still relay on land based line infrastructure. The overall wireless network would evolve to remote areas, but to incorporate the different data streams wirelessly like data, video, fax would be a real challenge piping through microwave, RF and upper K's of bandwidth. Look at the trouble with dropped off signals, intermittent connections and interference. The main reason land lines won't disappear completely is they still serve a purpose and currently are reliable. If anything, Fiber optics will take over but cost will determine this in time.

An internet or VoiP phone is still a land line. Traditional voice switching will become a thing of the past as more and more people use VoiP phones. The telephone companies are typically the largest internet service providers as they have the cabling infrastructure. Voice, internet, cable TV are now available all by one provider. You will have one cable feeding your home providing all services instead of a cable for each service provider. Land lines will still be around for many years to come due to the unreliabilty and security issues surrounding wireless transmission.

I don't think so because landlines is the alternative with a lesser cost. Second, most offices and commercial establishment would always prefer landlines because of operating cost, convenience in its operation with local numbers, and etc. etc......
Take care

I hope not until they get better reception for cell phones in the country and rural areas. My sister is in the country next to a metro area, and you can't even use cells there.
