give him a hint as to what you'd like him to do/say...hand him a book of poetry with your favorite poem and ask him to read it to you....mention you'd like to go out to dinner or something...or go for a walk...that kind of thing...

tough truth: he's just not that into you.
maybe he finds you lonely and attention starved, or maybe he doesn't like that you spend a lot of time on the internet? it's okay though, being 40 is tough! i wouldn't know though, i just turned 22 a few months ago. you should get a book called "He's Just Not That Into You" by Greg Behrendt. He's on Oprah a lot, and he knows what he's talking about. as for me, all the guys i've dated have been super romantic and really sweet and affectionate. maybe it's just the vibe your putting out there.
good luck sweetie! :)

Don't tell him what to do. Because when he does it, you know it wasn't sincere, it was just because you told him.
You can drop hints about, "Oh, I'd love to be picked up and taken out to a nice dinner" or, "I love the opera", but don't give him step-by-step instructions. It will be unsatisfying for you both.
