I'm just kind of curious and not wanting to shove religion down anyones throat... but does anyone who does not believe in God ever get scared they could be wrong and in turn suffer the consequences of not believing?

Personally, i have a friend who does not belong to any religious group, unlike me, a christian.

She is carefree and living her life to the fullest, but yet, she was still so empty in the inside because she didn't know what her purpose on earth was. She did not know what life was and how much it meant.

One day i asked her a question that stumped her.
"Where will you go when you die?"

She stared at me, her lower lip trembling.

then she broke down and buried her face in her hands..

"I don't know, Grace. I'm worrying each and everyday where i would be... I've tried to see fortune tellers and stuff like that but nothing seems to bring peace or true joy in my life... How is it you seem so happy in your life, and so..... full of joy?"

I told her about Christianity and told her that through God, he will bless you and bring you joy...

The lord is my shephard i shall not want
He maketh me to lie down on green pastures
He leadth me, to walk beside still waters
Even though i walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
i will fear no evil
for you are with me
you will comfort me.....
Surely goodness and mercy will follow me
all the days of my life
and i will dwell in the house of the lord,
Forever....

Guess what?

she accepted christ and have never been happier!

thank God and praise God!

God Bless You! =)

The answer is YES. The bottom line is, "you have heard about God, and your unbelieving is as a result of your own stone heart, and accordingly, you are responsible for the consequences" The only way you can be forgiven or escape is when you did not hear about God at all.
That is why God said that "His word shall spread round the globe so that no man will have any excuse - paraphrased.

And for those who think God does not exist, is it reasonable to dismiss that an author exist somewhere simply because we cannot see him? Meanwhile we can read the book he wrote.

The best I can advise is, as they say "it's better I live my life as if there is God and die to discover that there is no God, than to live as if there is no God and die to discover that there is One." that would be the biggest disappointment ever.

Gudluck!

As an atheist, I have to agree with Linda. If you don't believe in any of this stuff, then why would you believe in any consequences.
I couldn't give a stuff if anything was going to happen to me. Lifes all about actions and consequences. I control the path of life I'm taking, not some fictional being!

so as that we've some thing to look ahead to up in Heaven. No, yet heavily, if we HAD each thing we does no longer DO something. God provides us suitable well being? ninety% persons could be settee potatoes. God makes us immortal? we would be a the right thank you to overpopulated. God makes all people exceedingly? nicely then we would all ought to look the comparable and we does no longer be responsive to who all people exchange into. you like the forged with the undesirable to shape you as a individual. no count if i'm no longer completely particular there's a God up there; this is how I view it.

Nope.

If there would be a God, i think He/She should be more worried about the consequences than i should be. I did nothing wrong so far, He/She did a lot wrong.

I'm not even sure, if there would be a God, if He/She is still even worth worshipping after all the sorrow i've seen.

He/She should be happy if i even still would wanna be in Heaven!

Look at it this way. If you believe, then you believe that God made us, right?

Well, if God made us, then He made us to have doubts and be sceptical, and to use our reason -- those are very strong human characteristics. If that is how He made us, then He can hardly be surprised when that is how humans act (that would violate that whole omniscience thing). He must have realised that humans are going to doubt and be sceptical about the claims of religion.

So, either He isn't concerned if we "believe", in which case their is no penalty for non-belief, or He is perfectly willing to damn people for all eternity for the very characteristics He gave them, in which case He is unworthy of worship (since there is no possible way of determining what characteristics He gave you annoy Him and will lead to your damnation -- He's plainly irrational).

The cool thing is that if God is real. And he is a God, he would forgive me... Actually he would commend me for not believing in a murderer. Who wants to follow someone that murdered millions in a great flood. Or killed first born babies in Egypt. I bet you that if God is real, he is upset that people believe that a God would do things like that.

No.

If I were afraid of the unknown, then I would never have left the Catholic church in the first place.

Besides, what happens if I'm wrong? -- According to Christian teaching, God judges us on the basis of how we lived, not what we believed. ("For I was hungry, and you gave me to eat....")

This suggests that come judgement day, you and I will face exactly the same odds.

No. When I say I don't believe in it, I really don't believe in it. I am Unitarian, I believe in a higher power, but I don't believe in religion. I believe all good people, regardless of their beliefs (or lack therof) are to be commended.
