have you separated them at when the kitten came home?

if not that may be the problem.
your cat is mad and rightfully so his territory has been invaded, what you need to do is slowly reintroduce them to each other, this is the way to do it:

put the new kitten in an extra room or the bathroom for now, make sure he has food water and a litter box games as well go in everyday to play with him.
when you leave the room let your older cat smell you so he will get used to the new kitten smell.
also take two towel, rub one on the old cat and put it under the new cat bowels and visa versa.
in two weeks time put the new kitten in a carrier and take him outside to the living so your cat can see him he will hiss, they both will hiss.
give them some canned cat food some treats.
start with 10 minutes out and each day add another 10 minutes. do that for about two weeks. after two weeks let the kitten go free when your at home. give them treats and play with them both.
when you see the older cat not trying to hurt the kitten let him run free in the house.
it's up to them at that point.

they will either become good friends or will just leave in a cold peace.

This is normal, you might want to put the kittens in a cat carrier and move it in the room with the adult cat. Also brush the adult cat and bring some of the fur over tot he kittens and vice versa, put some on the kittens from the adult and let the adult smell the kitten fur. The adult might associate with the kittens more if it smells itself on the kittens.

Are the cats the same sex (2 males or 2 females?); if so, that may be the problem; if not, try getting some non toxic lightly scented body spray and spray them both with it at the same time; when they both smell the same, sometimes they'll forget what they were jealous of in the 1st place...

dont panic the hierarchy will work itself out - i have a one year old cat and recently adopted an 8 yr old cat - the younger cat decided to beat the living sh*t out of the older one - but after about a month the violence has gone - they still have their odd spate - under the futon - lots of hissing and thwack noises but they have carved up the flat between them and like Russia and the USA peace is achievable - its a long haul - buy a squirt gun if it gets worse and douse the offender in water which i find breaks up most fights

It takes cats ages to adjust to a newcomer. just keep going slowly don't force them. and make sure kitten has somewhere safe out of the way of the old cat to sleep.

things will improve with time, you will just have to keep a close eye on them when there in together. cats are very territorial the older one will learn in time that the new kitten is a buddy not a enemy

It takes time . . . they need separate litter boxes and food initially. You also need to spend time with the adult cat so it does not feel rejected.
