The Dark Ages was a gift to us from the Christian church. Some of the greatest thinkers were suppressed by the Church. In its time the Christian church has tried to suppress everything from Arab numerals to umbrellas. Rare was the Christian who achieved anything of note with the blessings of the Church.

Today's prize example -- Stem cell research
Now try to imagine where we would be without Christian interference.

All of them were not. But then, for the last 1000 years the dominantly judeo-christian nations have enjoyed the greatest economic success, which certainly helped to promote individual successes by various inventors, scientists, etc. Also, remember that after the intellectual catastrophe of discovering the New World, people were forced to re-think the methods for understanding WHY the world was they way it was...and not the way the church had insisted it was. This led to the gradual creation the Scientific Method...which, basically, kicked on the after-burners in scientific/technical research and discovery. Other cultures didn't have this episode in their development.

Most of them are thought to be Christian, because they were born in Christian lands. The facts are, many were invigorated by the knowledge that they had acquired by translating the books in Arabic from Muslim Spain. All progress among the Europeans began after 1492, when the knowledge of Spain was inherited by the Christians (why did it take close to two thousand years after Christ for science to blossom? and only one hundred years for science to blossom among the Arabs. "Enquiring" minds must think these things =).

Do some research why the words such as alchohol, admiral and sugar have an Arabic origin. Many of these great men such as Newton, Gallelio and others knew the truth, but could not express the truth and be burnt on the stake!!

FIND OUT really, how many of them were Christians. Most scientists left Christianity as they learnt science and there was and still is a constant tension between the scientists and Christians. That has never been the case among the Muslim or Jewish scientists, who saw science itself as a divine study of the WORKS of the CREATOR!! Do a search on "Arab scientists" and you will be surprised how many there are who taught science to the Europeans, when the concept of science was being understood by them. Some of the translations from Arabic were being taught in many European universities as late as the Eighteenth century.

Do another search on the Muslim and/ Jewish scientists, and you will be surprised how many there are.

That said, it is indeed important to remember that science took root in Europe even as Christianity was being weakened, whereas science progressed among the Muslims when they were more loyal to ISLAM.

In the nature of things, Lord allows all nations to participate in making the FINAL KINGDOM, and Europeans were left out of the loop for centuries, after the fall of Greece and Rome. Thus it was time for Europe to carry forward the LIGHT of Knowledge after taking the TORCH of Knowledge from the Muslims.

Only the ignorant do not see the whole picture and we are all ignorant to a certain degree and we learn from each other.

YOU AND I are on the computer because our ancestors got the Arabic numbers incorporated in common practice. Ironically the Arabs call these numbers HINDSA or Indian numbers. But, the fact remains that the Arabs brought the concept to Europe, even if it is of Indian origin. The same is true for many Chinese scientific discoveries such as the magnet, china, gun powder and paper were brought to the Europeans by the Arab Muslims.

If Christianity was the primary mover and shaker, why did the Christians not go to China and India. After all Christ came six hundred years before Prophet Mohammad?

The fact is the Christians were stopped firmly by the Persians and they were unable to cross the middle-east. Thus the Lord raised the Prophet among the hardy Arabs, who spearheaded the message of monotheism into the East.

If you are fair, you will check the facts and then make conclusions. If you are prejudiced, no one can help you anyway!

Well up until the Age of Enlightenment kicked in, the only way that anybody could get an education was via church institutions... and the only way you could do THAT was to at least PRETEND you were a christian. So, it isn't the least bit surprising, then, that most pre-Enlightenment western scholars are marked as 'Christian'... they really didn't have any choice.

I want to know why some Christians have a problem accepting the theory of evolution or that the earth is not flat.
But being a Hindu I don't like to say anything against any religion.

None of them would have been able to do anything without the invention of the number 1 and 0. They were invented in India.

Actually, the muslims made most of the contributions in math and science. While the Christians were killing anyone that dared discover anything that wasn't pre-scripted by their god.

because almost everybody that's been born gets the stamp "CHRISTIAN". It doesn't mean they're believing anything or reading anything like you believe in your narrow-minded view of the world.
