i don't know much about dogs but I assume they are close to cats and with my cat is actually was a maggot. He had an infection inside him and they got in when he went the bathroom. He nearly died because they were quite literally eating him alive. I don't mean to scare you but you obviously love your animal. Take him to the vet immediately.

I used to see this a lot on kittens born in barns. This is larvae from a fly that commonly attacks wild rabbits.
Removal of the larvae is the 1st step. Clean the wound well, Peroxide, betadine, flushing with salt water are all good. These things can get pretty nasty, keep it clean! . Any strong odors or bad infections should be seen by a vet Most of these will heal if kept clean once the larvae is removed.
ps. check puppy for other bumps

Vet as soon as possible, the poor puppy as an infection and the maggot was eating the bad meat around it. The dog can die really quickly from this.

You will want to take your puppy to the vet with the bug that popped out if you still have it. It could be a tick or a wide variety of other things.

What you found was called a "bott'. It is the larval stage of a bott-fly. They are common in horses and cattle. The fly lays a tiny white egg on the hair of an animal. When it hatches it burrows into the skin and stays there until it matures. They are pretty uncommon on dogs. A good flea/tick shampoo will keep them away.

Yikes! Was it alive? There are some flies that burrow and leave eggs that turn into larvae, but that's usually in 3rd world nations; Guess it could happen here if she had a small cut and the fly got in....poor thing...take her to the vet and have him test it and give her some meds....good luck with your baby!

Could be a maggot.
Maybe your doggie has a really really bad infection. Go to the vet as soon as possible! If you don't, you might have to put your dog to sleep.

As everyone else has said, DEFINITELY take your dog to the vet immediately, and bring the "specimen" with you (in something sealed)- better safe than sorry!
