Taken from Hebrew: "Yeshua", earlier form "Yoshua" (from which we get the name Joshua) is made up of two concepts

YHWH - the "I am", as mentioned by one of the other people who answered; and

Hosea - which means "salvation"

So, if you wanna get really picky about it, Jesus actually means "YHWH is salvation". Which ties in with the doctrine of the Diety of Jesus, that this man is the YHWH of the Old Testament, came to display the fullness of the salvation promised.

Hope this answer is of some help... :)

Accepting Jesus as your savior is basically the culmination of John 3:16, "For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son that whomsoever believeth in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life". The very concept of Christianity is the acceptance of Jesus Christ as the part of the Trinity known as "The Son" -- but the highest point of enlightenment lies in knowing the word of God which is the Holy Bible. If you accept Christ as your savior, by definition you are Christian. I really don't see the separation of "accepting Jesus as your savior" and "Christianity". Christ further says in the Bible, John 14:6 (King James Version): "Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me." This "New Covenant" which is known for grace, salvation, the forgiveness of sins, and everlasting life is due to the sacrifice of Christ as "the Lamb of God" upon the cross -- and subsequent transfiguration from the 'earthly' to 'spiritual' body and is the crux of Christianity itself. Heaven is where God is and Jesus Christ is the way.

Jesus Christ is the begotten son of God. To enter into the kingdom of heaven, one must accept Jesus Christ as their personal saviour. After all, he died on the cross for you and me. Glory to GOD!
