I upload video clips of my son onto Kodak and I would like to Burn a DVD for family members. My Comp has DVD burning capability but when I burnt a DVD it would only play on my computer. Are there any free software programs to use so I can view them on a DVD player? Any help or advice is appreciated. Thanks

DVD drives on computers can play a number of differet video file types, including: MPEG-2, MPEG-4, AVI, WMA, DivX and other obscure file types. However, the vast majority of standalone DVD players can not play many of these file types. They can play MPEG-2 files, which is the file type used on the DVD movies you can find at your local BlockBuster. If you want to play your video clips on a standalone DVD player then you need to convert them in to the MPEG-2 file type. Without knowing which file type your video clips are saved in, I can't tell you how to convert them.
To find out which file type your video clips are saved in, open Windows Eplorer and go to Tools > Folder options > the "View" tab > scroll down to "Hidden extension for known file types" and make sure it is unchecked. Next, go to your video clips and look at the file extension. For example, videoclip1.avi. Once you have found the file type, you can contact me and I'll try to walk you through the process of converting the video clips to a format your DVD player can play. Or, you can consult www.afterdawn.com. Some one else mentioned this site and it is a very good place to start. The site has a slew of guides to help you rip and burn DVD's.
