I have 2 cats, who both come when they are called. They go out each day, and at night, I call them back. If they don't come in, they get to spend the night ouside. It didn't take long for them to understand.

It helps, I imagine, that my voice means ''food'' to them! But they also come when my son calls them, so...

As for any undesirable behavior, like jumping on the table while you're eating, don't wait too long: be consistent, and each time they do something you disapprove, take the cat, say a strong "no" and put them on the floor, as often as needed.

My cats don't go on the table while I am here, but I am pretty sure they do when I am not around, so, make sure to clean your table really well before you eat! :-)

Good luck!

Yes, we have a stray that comes when I call her. With time they can learn a lot more than people give them credit for. Cats are very smart, but they are more independant than dogs and care less about pleasing us. I have always had dogs (still do) and am learning about cats since the stray we just took in is pregnant.

I have been told that you can train them not to walk on counters and tables. Several people have suggested to me to keep a spray bottle of water handy and spray them when they get somewhere they are not supposed to be. I have been told by several cat owners that it does work and it is possible.

I knew a man that had two siamese cats that loved to fetch. They couldn't get enough of it. It was funny to watch. Cats are as individual as dogs in their personalities. No two are alike.

It depends on the cat. But my cat comes when I call her. I bet though if given the time alone she may jump up on the table. You need to let them know it's wrong to get up on the table when you are present and that means everyone in the house.

Yes, I have three of my cats trained to come when called by name; My friend's cat will usually come when she's outside, but if a bird or small animal distracts her, then all bets are off!
I just trained my cats by calling them by name and initially offering treats; now they just come when called...

cats are smarter than you think. mine follow me around just like my dog. when outside i call them by saying here kitty kitty, then their names and they all come running some take longer than others but within a few minutes everyone usually comes home. as for the table they will learn the word "NO" a gental little smack and put them back on the floor and say no. GOOD LUCK.

ive had my cat since it was a kitten. i let it go roam the neighborhood whenever it wants, but when i want it to come home all i have to do is yell its name out the door and within a minute it comes home. its pretty cool. also, to train it to not walk on the tables, a squirt gun is effective and harmless.

well kind of, you can make a noise and call her name. get her used to it by giving her food when she comes over.
my cats meow when she ears her name.

just take her down the table and say no in a stern voice. after awhile they learn.
and don't leave any food on the table.

Yes it is possible to train your cat. I trained my cat to sit for his food and catnip. I call my cat and he comes.
