I'm 23 and I've seldomly ever went to go see a doctor. I don't have any type of insurence so I would be paying the bill out of pocket. Just wondering what I should expect to pay to speak with a GP and possibly have a Rx written for me.

Depends on the area you live in. They will usually just charge the cost of an office visit which can vary. I have seen them from about $60 dollars on up to about $120. I just recently paid $114 for my son here in NC.

There is no set price for an office visit, it will vary by doctor or clinic. You could call around and find out what different medical centers in your area charge for an office visit. Also ... it will depend on why you need the prescription. Some prescriptions require additional testing before dispensing, like blood work, urine test, etc.

Some doctors have samples of drugs that are given to them by the drug companies. Explain your insurance situation and ask the doctor if he/she has any samples of what they want you to take. But this will still require an office visit!

For a first time visit, expect to pay any where from 45 to 100 dollars.Call the M.D. and ask the receptionist. She should be able to tell you.Try to find a free clinic in your area or a doc who charges a sliding scale as low as 10 dollars depending on your income.
