I think it depends mostly on why you check his email. Perhaps he did not break off with you because of this, this was symptom of trust issues in the relationship? Only you know the answers, nobody else does with the given information. Look inside yourself for the truth.

Emails are personal things, you never should have done that, would you be happy if other people read your email or open up your snail mail and read without your permission ?

If this is the case, I'd be pretty upset to. Basically you're saying you don't trust him. Simple as that.

well if yall only been together for a little bit then yea u were asking for it. but if yall been together for a while then maybe he was over reacting because he had something to hide. or maybe he jus doesnt like people going and checking his stuff. y dont u talk to him and see how he feels.

first of all, had to read yr question 3 times to get what yr saying, and secondly that was a *****ty thing to do. never ever do that again. it's called invasion of privacy. i'd get on four and ask 4 forgiveness if i were u and then just dissapear.vanish. poof!

yes. Does he check yours? Bet you'd be upset if he did cause of the "trust" thing. He has his life and you have yours, you're not married, next time don't check his email (or his voicemail, etc...)

This must be a hooked on phonics, I knew this was going to happen. LOL. In my opinion you shouldn't have looked at his e-mails. I would say if he was your fiancee then it would be OK, but you and him were not, right. Good luck.
