Because he wants the votes of the pro-lifers while deep down he knows that stem cells are the most amazing advancement of science in the last century.

Thank God the government hasn't encroached into the private business sector enough to shut down stem cell research.

I believe stem cell research is the way of the future to cure and save thousands of lives.. Hopefully by the time my ten year old daughter is 17 they will have a cure for Juvenile Diabetes 1 through this miraculous important research.. Now is not the time to stay in the dark ages..

Because I don't think he understands the great achievements and advancements in both medicine and science that stem cell research could offer.
He doesn't want to provide federal funds for it because he wants to keep on the good side of pro-lifers, but he will allow private companies to fund it because he can't dictate who can give money to what without violating civil rights.
He just doesn't realize that by vetoing that bill, he just set America a couple of years back in research, while a lot of other countries are making great breakthroughs. That sucks...

Stem cell research is not murder!!! Please check your facts!

The cells are collected from the placenta or the umbilical cord of newborns. These are generally incinerated after weighing once the child is born. The cells are invaluable in "growing" new tissues to replace/repair faulty organs. A foetus starts from the joining of two cells - ok - these are the ova and the sperm. Once these cells start to divide and multiply the cells know what to turn into -whether they are fingers or toes for instance, by the position they find themselves in and the chemical "transmitters" that wash over them when the cells are in position.

Therefore the cells found in the placenta and umbilical cord - stem cells - which are normally thrown away and burnt - are able to be used by specialists in embryology to help those children or adults who need either transplants or surgical repair of their organs. A new piece of tissue to repair a faulty liver or kidney may be grown from these cells that haven't yet been programmed as to what they are supposed to be. No one is killed - no one is injured, in fact this research may be able to replace the need for donor organs one day.

Because there are TWO kinds of stem cell research. One is embryonic (from fertilized eggs that could potentially turn into human beings) and umbilical stem cells.

MANY cures have come from umbilical stem cell research. So far, NO cures have come from emryonic. I wonder why people insist on using embyonic stem cells and not the highly-successful umbilical stem cells. Perhaps that have another agenda: the devaluation of life.

i support stem cell research to the point that i would donate large sums of money to these companies. the benefits are just too great to ignore. using stem cells from embryo's is not murder. it has yet to go throught the court system to be classified as so.

The bill he vetoed would have allowed research to be done on stem cells. Now these same cells are being discarded as waste. Basically, he's letting these cells "die" in vain. Also, he's killed lots of people because of the war.

This question seems like it should be in politics, not religion and spirituality.

What Becki said.

And;

The private companies are allowed by law to do research.

Bush has no authority to prevent or allow them from doing research under the current laws.

The bill that bush vetoed wanted to provide federal funds for this research.

Yes, according to Bush, using a clump of cells that isn't even formed into a body of any kind yet to cure illness and disease in countless people is murder...

However slaughtering thousands of Iraqis is not. The man is a complete hypocrite and idiot.... what else can i say?

i wonder what answers you would get if some of these idiots had a dying kid or loved one who could benefit from it ( becki)...perfect example of people spouting off about something they know nothing about, because their church does their thinking for them.
