Because people in general lack proper critical thinking skills. Also many are fed this nonsense from birth, it's hard to argue something when its the only thing you know. Most people don't read the bible themselves either... they just memorize what they are force fed in Sunday school.
Religion is a self-reinforcing delusion. Just because most people on earth believe something doesn't make it true.

The bible is neither an accurate historical account nor a myth. It's both. What are recorded in the bible are FAITH INTERPRETATIONS.
This means that, what the bible is most concerned of is the transmission of an objective TRUTH - that of an everlasting FAITH to a God who it calls YAHWEH.
It uses the history of Israel but it is not concerned with its accuracy nor its scientific detail. It also uses stories (myth, parables, legends, etc) but only to convey a deeper meaning. The story of creation for example is a myth. But it does,nt say that it is mere imagination. Its message is: THERE is a beggining, there is a CREATOR and HE LOVES us.
The bible relies on the FAITH of its readers. Its lasting effect or temacity only proves that the BIBLE is truly the WORD OF GOD worthy of our FAITH. otherwise it should have died a natural death a long time ago.

Words like evolution, creation, death, life, soul, spirit, heaven, hell, trinity, rapture, LORD God, Lord God, gods and god and hell fire, resurrection, lost, saved, faith, angels, demons, Satan, truth, meek and decent, in the world or in a church house, a dozen people or less, they all have their version, their meaning, their interpretation. Human are white, brown, tan, gold, dark and black, this is an example of the way things are supposed to be in every aspect existing, all is variety.
The story for humans, eternal life was lost, the life sustaining earth was lost, and all the original perfection was lost. Except for a few good, meek, humble, wise and understanding men like Enoch, Noah and Abraham who knew they did not evolve, and that the one who made angels had made them, we would not be here in this temporary
existence to have a slim chance at the real thing, so few to be thankful for all that exist and all that is possible. We will have to be some kind of a real different creature to ever get any where.
All is described in the bible that can make things like they will have to be, so that is good enough for me, I can not prove one story or time line wrong, and my eye witness evidence of all around me is my evidence that this book is real, humans have no idea what perfection is and what sin is, but creation and evelution is gambling and guessing
and no more facts can be determined on it than the Noah story if any is in doubt.

ha ha! Jesusfreak you are either 12 or have never read the book.
God didn't write the Bible, neither did Jesus, man did. It's been proven that the New Testament was written 200 years after Christ died, so it's not accurate...anyone with a brain and who has read it can tell you that. It contradicts itself, claims that just about everything is a sin, and so on.
I also think it's just supposed to be an example, not absolute truth and not a step by step guide on how to live a perfect life.

Because the Bible is true. It is the truth. You dont have to believe in it, because God made us to have free will. I believe in every word of the Bible. I have faith in Jesus. To have faith is to believe in something unseen. And I think its weird how a lot of people diss the Bible but they never really read it. When I really starting reading it I was amazed at the truth in it and the Bible is how God can speak new Christians, but I could go on forever about the Bible!

brainwashed? ha, i disagree with that totally....if you actually read the book with understanding you come to your own conclusions...people imply that people that believe in the bible are idiots....the exact opposite is true. ACTUALLY READ THE BOOK...before you spout ur nonsense...nobody is brainwashing anybody but there does seem to be a trend to discredit the bible by those that have no full knowledge of what it even says....so what does that make them?
