i just enlisted in the navy. in anyone's opinion which would i rather live east coast or west coast?

The east coast is cheaper as long as it is south of New York. The west coast does not have the humidity in the southern porition but the cost of living is terrible.

Personal preference, but the East coast is waaayyyyyy closer to 'The Hill" and as a result, is waaaayyyyyyyy more uptight/anal/rigid. The West Coast is far more relaxed, but they don't sacrifice professionalism. Protocol still must be observed and whatnot, but overall, there is generally less of an uptight attitude. Big Wigs and Brass tend to visit Norlfolk cuz it's closer rather than San Diego.
Consider going OCONUS though. some great opportunities to go to Japan and Italy

Definitely EAST coast!!!!! Done the the San Diego thing a few times and the cost of living is crazy. Try for one of the bases/ships in Florida or Virginia. On the east coast you have more in the way of options if you wanna take a weekend trip

i am telling you, west coast is way better and more relaxed than the uptight east coast fleet.
i transfered after serving 5 years on the west coast to the east, what a difference! everyone was so uptight and military like all the time, like people have a stick up their asses constantly.

Definitely consider going overseas!!! It's blast, and we'd do it again in a heartbeat. We did Japan for three years and loved it.
If you stay stateside though, East Coast is cheaper, prettier and less crowded.
