background info: I have been diagnosed with major depressive disorder when I was 20 (I am now 25). I have been on and off depressive and anti psychotic medication since then. A year ago, my doctor changed the diagnosis to bipolar disorder.

I do not usually binge and then purge food. Tonight, I feel depressed because I ate a lot and I was getting a headache, so I induced vomit. I feel sick when I do this, but I can't help it. The last time I did this was 6 months ago. I don't usually purge food out, but when I am really depressed, I don't eat for a day (up to 3 days.. I just drink lots of water). When I have a depressive or manic episode, I either eat a lot (I may or may not vomit) or I don't eat at all... I feel fat, although I know that nobody else will think that I am (I am 5'4" and my weight fluctuates between 115lbs to 120lbs. the heaviest that I ever got was 125lbs). I am trying to conceive and I am so concerned about gaining weight.

What do you think? Please advise.

The first thing I am compelled to answer is the part about you trying to conceive... so I address this first;

Why are you trying to bring a child into the world... Your world, when you yourself are having issues taking care of you? I am not bashing in any way I am asking a serious question that you should really think about ... deeply!
When one is thinking about bringing a child into the world, one should first think seriously about what the means. An innocent baby, who needs all the love, attention, teaching, patience and ever-lasting forgiveness... that a mother and father can give to it, deserves more.

This undertaking, had it been taken more seriously, and less selfishly - people say "I want a baby" as easily as they say they want a Big Mac but there is a world of difference – would bring about a better world for all of us if people would think about the child first.

You are 25 - wait! You have plenty of time and you could use that time to prepare yourself for the new world of being a mom. Get yourself together first - do not burden an innocent angel with your selfish desire to have someone love you. Again, I am not bashing, I am simply stating that if we think first, of improving the person “we” are as individuals before making life-altering choices with, and for others… we are all going to benefit from the effort.

Work at making “YOU” a stronger, more loving, more attentive, more accepting person. You clearly state that you are not happy with you – you cannot bring a child into the world if you are not happy… it will have unfair and devastating effects on the little angel.

OK - you want a serious answer and you are thinking of having a baby. You definitely need to see a doctor and not be seeking answers here.

If you do not get this thing under control you SHOULD NOT consider getting pregnant. You will be responsible for the health and well-being of a developing fetus.

I think you truly a wonderful caring person dealing with some personal issues. Please get help helping yourself before considering getting pregnant. Right now, YOUR own health is the most important thing. It sounds like there is a chemical imbalance going on at several levels.

I wish you all the luck in the world - see a professional and get the help you need. My thoughts will be with you. Namaste' (means: let the light in me honor the light in you)

Don't get pregnant please. You are unfit the have a child. If you are so concerned of being fat and self centered it is no wounder you are depressed. Bi-polar or not. Except your self as you are. I think you feel sorry for your self. When you are feeling depressed do something nice for someone you don't know. Also physical work good old hard physical work will snap you out of a depressive state. Good luck. Don't conceive.

If you force yourself to puke at any time you should see a doctor. If you only did it because you ate too much and felt sick from it you're probably OK.
