The age of kids is 16. The gender has nothing to do with old you have to be to work.

It depends on where you live. I'm not a boy but I started working at 14. I did have to get a work permit from the state, though I can't remember the info the needed now - I know a letter from my school.

From a personal standpoint, I think that most kids should start working by 16 - not only does it give them their own money but it builds their self-worth and teaches them about the real world while still (usually) under the protective aspect of home.
